  • Need input regarding camp sites along the BRP

This must be the place to go for good info. I will be doing the Hunts Lodge camp for the second time. I had a great time last year and learned much about the art of Motocamping. This year I plan to follow up on the gathering by heading up the BRP and camping along the way. I an researching camp sites both on and close to the Parkway. I prefer the openness of the Federal and State Parks but do like my shower at the end of the day.
I would appreciate any input you may have regarding your favorite camp sites and why they are at the top of your list. Sometimes the websites are like reading a fiction novel. It sounds great on the web site, but the camp is nothing like the web site.
I look forward to your input.

    Thanks
    Bruce

None of the NPS Campgrounds along the BRP/Skyline Dr have showers!

These campgrounds along/near the BRP and Skyline Dr would be/get my recommendations.

Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground - https://goo.gl/maps/UVsjRCXo71p
      Willville Motorcycle Campground - https://goo.gl/maps/k9tU4Wybxut
Cave Mountain Lake Campground - https://goo.gl/maps/em3fnzp9KJn
      Elizabeth Furnace Campground - https://goo.gl/maps/zGs52sASDNu

Start off from Hunt's following this route to the start of the BRP and on up to BRMC and then follow the BRP up to the other campgrounds

Re: Need input regarding camp sites along the BRP

If you need showers, the BRP sites will be lacking except for the Pisgah CG.

The Mt. Pisgah CG would be my recommendation after you leave Hunts. I only saw one shower myself. I think it was B loop. But, to my knowledge Pisgah is the only CG with showers on the BRP http://www.recreation.gov/camping/mo...O&parkId=75021

But, in that area near 276 you have the Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground with good showers and its cheaper. Although Pisgah would be cooler up high and have much less road noise. The restaurant across the road is good eating.

Then, Willville Moto CG would be my next stop.

I need a shower each day, so I mostly pick out the State Park facilities, most of those in NC have warm showers. Gotta get off the BRP though.

If you tug a trailer, you might consider one of these. We invested in one almost ten years ago. Used it when camping on the BRP and several other places that don't have showers. You'll be the envy of the campground if you have one, especially if you brought by bike.

Re: Need input regarding camp sites along the BRP

Thanks to all for your input. Using the information you guys provided, I have put together a route that I think will work. Any other input such as specific experience with any of the campgrounds listed is appreciated.
Sunday: Mt Pisgah Campground. 156 Miles from Hunts M/C. I have stayed here several times before but in an RV.
Monday: Millers Family Campground. 170 Miles. Talked to these folks and it seems like a pretty quiet place and it is right on the BRP.
Tuesday: Willville M/C Campground. 71 Miles. No info except that it was recommended.
Wednesday:Cave Mountain Lake. 115 Miles. This is a Fed CG. I spoke with the Ranger office and was given specific directions to avoid the long gravel rd off the Parkway.
Northbound, exit N. on Hwy 43, (Parkway Dr) towards Buchanan., Rt on Hwy 11 towards Natural Bridge., Rt on 130, (Wert Faulkner Hwy) through Natural Bridge Station to a right turn on Arnolds Valley Rd. , Next Right on Cave Mountain Lake Rd to the CG.
Return to the BRP going North is back to Natural Bridge Station and a Rt turn on 130, Then Right on 130/501 (Virginia Byway) to BRP.
Cave Mtn Lake Rd may be gravel. I am not sure. Any confirmation is appreciated.
            Friday: End of Parkway.

Each of these Campgrounds has showers.Again, thanks for the input. Specific experience regarding the CGs is appreciated.
