I'm not as energetic as Dusty. Mules are the way to go. If you ever consider it, may I suggest the north rim. Much less crowded and reservations are easier.

I was in my mid 50s when I hiked down and back to the Colorado River, from the North Rim of the GC the same day

Try to hike down an up the Grand Canyon of the east.I for got the number of steps,My wife and I WERE IN OUR late 60's ,She sat at the top while I did it.I havn't been back.

Be sure to come up I 15 to Kolob Canyon and hike the backside of Zion. Just as pretty but less visitors.

Very true Ken, Zion is great. I've camped, hiked and repelled there back in the early 80s while living in St. George. Awesome views.
And yes you can dehidrate there. Proper hydration is very necessary in the desert.
