  • If you like to hike a bit and Zion NP is on your 'To Do' list .....

Zion NP is one of many Natural Wonders in southern Utah.

If you like to get out and stretch your legs, there are quite a few hikes there that range from easy to strenuous.

The River Walk is an easy hike along a paved trail to the start of Zion Narrows, which takes about 1 1/2 hr round trip.

The Emerald Pools Trail (both upper & lower) is a moderate hike, which takes roughly 1 1/2 - 2 hr to complete and involves some elevation gain/loss

The Canyon Overlook Trail is a great trail taking roughly 1 1/2 hrs and is classified as moderate, with some elevation gain/loss

My favorite hike in Zion has to be Angels Landing, which is a fairly strenuous, 5 hr trail that you'll gain 1488', but is certainly worth it for all the outstanding views along the way! (not for you if you suffer from Vertigo!)

I recently came across this fairly decent video which pretty accurately depicts the hike up.

As with any form of exertion in higher elevation, make sure you take along plenty of fluids to drink, as you can become dehydrated very quickly, especially in the SW!

I have been to Angel's Landing, and that is a very strenuous walk up to the top--before you cross that narrow ledge to Angel's Landing. It is not for the feint of heart. I did not make it all the way. That narrow ledge with nothing but a chain rail to hang onto was too much for me.

Still, it is a beautiful view all the way. I can't emphasize enough--take plenty of water--PLENTY OF WATER.

Agree with Dusty, Angels Landing is a favorite in Zion. I always thought that would be the perfect place to propose to my future bride..........

Very true Ken, Zion is great. I've camped, hiked and repelled there back in the early 80s while living in St. George. Awesome views.
And yes you can dehidrate there. Proper hydration is very necessary in the desert.

Be sure to come up I 15 to Kolob Canyon and hike the backside of Zion. Just as pretty but less visitors.

                  Ha! That's what I thought.
You've missed a lot being unable to get past those fears.
It actually took me @30 minutes to get up the spunk to get on the 160' rope to repell the last drop into this valley but once having done it felt a whole lotta respect for crawling on the edge of life.

Absolute awesome video. Don't know if I'll ever get an opportunity, but something I'd love to do.

True, it's a rush. In a previous thread where I described an EarthRivers trip, we rappelled off a 300 foot sheer wall. Had to stop at the 150 foot point and change ropes. On the way down, I accidentally touched the carabiner, it was burning hot.
