  • Seam Sealing Aspen Camper

I have a new to me 2009 Aspen Classic camper. My wife and I took it camping over the weekend to try it out and see what additions we want to make to it. It rained most of Sunday night which was good so we could see how it worked in the rain. As I said it rained most of Sunday night. It rained heavy at times but mostly just a steady rain. We had some water come in the upper corners of the camper. The two corners above the door and one corner above the end window. The previous owner said they had the same leaking during the rain. He gave me a tube of Performix VLP that he used to seal the seams in the corners. He said this is what Aspen told him to use. I looked close at the corners and what he put on looks to be getting dry and coming off.
So my question is what does everyone use to seal the seams? Do you use the Performix VLP or do you use regular tens seam sealer? Any information will be great. Other than the little leaks in the corners the trailer did great. It set up quickly and towed fine.

    Thanks

I used this on my Lees-ure Lite Camper. I did not have leaks, applied for preventive purposes. No issues this past year, and I got caught in a couple BIG rains/storms.

Thanks for the replies. I will probably get both the +WP and the +FC sealers. I will use the WP for the areas that are currently leaking and use the FC for all the other seams. After that I will spray the side material it with Camp Dry.
My wife and I REALLY liked the Aspen camper. I have already done some of the upgrades that Dusty Boots, G Wizz, and others have made to their campers. Thanks again for all of the great information.

Does it squirt upside down? Just wondering how you'd seal the roof seams with it from the picture.

Yes, you squeeze a bit of it out at a time carefully along the seams and use an acid swab brush to apply it, making sure you cover the seams. Let it sure for a good three hrs and then apply a light dusting of talc/baby powder to remove the 'tac'.
I have never used the water based stuff as I always use the urethane-based Gear Aid Seam Grip Seam Sealer!!

Naw, just frowned upon these days and if you apply to lady parts, could cause ovarian cancer. Ambulance chasing lawyers are gearing up for that. Works pretty good on monkey butt.
