Have spent all day down at NAS Pensacola attending the Homecoming Airshow of the Navy Blue Angels, ending their year of airshows with this two day event. Over 100,000 folks attending, and a LOT of Veterans. Really a carnival like atmosphere, lot of concessions of all kinds, and a lot of riveting airshows by different types of aircraft...even had a MIG 17 flying....and to be such an antique, this is a remarkable jet. This old war bird is/was the most maneuverable jet fighter built up until the F-15 Eagle came along...The MIG was built back in the 50s...The Ruskies are no slouches when it comes to building jets, not to be underestimated...This event was opened with the singing of the Star Spangled Banner....about brought a tear to my big ole eye...as to many others in attendance. Even had this Semi-Tractor powered with THREE afterburner equipped jet engines....talk about lighting up the night sky....350mph in less than ONE mile down the runway..in a Semi Tractor...can probably Google that one.
Great to see so many young and old that love this great Country so deeply...and so many young military members that love what they are doing, every day....love to see those young pilots, looking like kids, but so very professional and competent. Only wish I had at least another 20 plus years to put on the old uniform. Happy Veterans Day, Veterans...and thank you for your Service.
