    Snowclem and Curt to Alaska

This will be the one and only tale of this trip (other than the many verbal ones told in more detail around campfires and barrooms). We will be leaving Tuesday morning. We both need to do oil changes and a few other odds and ends before we leave. Curt even has to work Monday. The plan is to work our way to Glacier before turning north. Originally we had thought to go to the west of Glacier and spend a day in that area, but since Going to the Sun won't be open until the 22nd, we may just make a pass up the east side before heading to Banff and the Icefields Pkwy. I will try to keep this thread current and even add some pictures as time and wifi permit. For those that don't already know, we live about 50 miles south of the big Mac bridge, so our route will take us through the UP of Michigan and across US-2. Until next time,

    Richard

Mrclean, the Going to the Sun is scheduled to open on the 22nd of June, so you should be good to go. We'll be making a pass by, but won't be spending much time there.

This will be the last post before "reports from the road" will be the norm. Now I need to go and get packed.

Re: Snowclem and Curt to Alaska

Incredible day!!! It started at 8 AM in cloudy skies, but before long we were riding in and out of heavy mist and the nice 66* temps we had left in were down to 54*. Gusty 15-20 mph headwinds greeted us after we turned west. By mid afternoon the skies had started to clear and the weather and temps continued to improve. I averaged 38 mpg pulling a heavily loaded Escapade trailer into that wind, which I am very surprised at. 11 hours of travel time and we're moteling it tonight and tomorrow night. A fairly uneventful day except for my first ever wolf sighting. I knew there would be a chance of seeing a wolf on this trip, but also knew that it is one of the rarer sights and not guaranteed. However, to see one in Michigan while making this trip is beyond any reasonable expectation. I only took a couple of pics today andwill probably get to post them tomorrow.
