    Fountainbleau State Park, Mandeville, La

Weather predictions were great for this weekend so we took Friday off and decided to go camping. We live close to this park but had never camped there, so we gave it a try. This park is located on the north shore of lake pontchartrain and was closed for several years after hurricane Katrina devastated the area. It has been rebuilt and is very nice - for tent camping as well as trailers. There is a new fishing pier. We walked to the lake and enjoyed the beautiful sunset.

If you want a break from the grill, there are lots of great restaurants very close by. We had dinner at the Camellia Cafe in Slidell and at Louie & the Redheaded Lady's in Mandeville only about 5 miles up the road. I had the fried shrimp platter at Camellia Cafe and the blackened redfish at Louie's. Both were very good. The rest of the time we spent riding around and relaxing by the camp and even played a game or two of dominoes. Just the way we like it.

We have busy schedules too and it's hard to find time to relax. The weather was cool and dry and we just had to take advantage of that. The heat and humidity will come back soon and it will be months before we'll be able to camp again around here and enjoy it. The nights are still cool enough but soon that will change too.

Now that looks relaxing! Thanks for sharing the pics. My "bucket list" includes traveling to see some of the areas in the gulf. Someday...................

Camped there last winter. Quiet place. Lots of campsites. Clean restrooms and showers. Easy to find. Plan to make it a regular stop
