Fir Tree Wilmington Notch CG, near Lake Placid, NY

This is another DEC run campground, located in the NE section of the Adirondacks, not far from Lake Placid, NY. It is a 1st come, 1st served campground - no reservations!

This is a quiet little campground that I found to be quite nice and could easily serve as a base camp to explore this area of the Adirondacks.

You could easily spend 3 full days exploring the POIs that are nearby. Lake Placid was the site of 2 Winter Olympics. Lots of hiking/fishing/sight seeing opportunities exists nearby. Great riding roads in this area as well.

The Ausable River runs along the edge of the campground in a bit of a gorge, but we could hear it from our campsite.

Each campsite has a picnic table with a fire ring/grill. Water spigots are scattered throughout the campground and the showers/washrooms, although dated, are clean. Firewood available for a fee. No electric, WiFi, or camp store. Supplies/gas/restaurants can be had in nearby Lake Placid.

Our campsite (#39) was located beside the shower house, under a nice shady canopy of tress, which helped cool things off during a hot spell. There is a pretty good mix of shaded, or open campsites

I liked this small 54 site campground.

I really liked this place. The ski jumps were impressive. The town was good food was good also. Ken said we should stay another day, but I wanted to go to lake George. I should have listened to Ken. It was that afternoon at lake George my heart quite, and I passed out. If we stayed and relaxed, I may not have had a problem. (Note to self, always listen to Ken)

Maybe one of these days you'll listen!

It was a very hot/humid day for the ride from this campground down to our next campground on Lake George though! (100*+) .... yet also very scenic and laid back.
It took us more like 4+ hrs to get to Lake George, as we rolled into the Mickey D's in downtown Lake George about 12:45, so Gary could get something to eat and a Kingsize soda drink to cool down, as he was not feeling all that great at that point.
