    Chris' Camp Spearfish, SD

Wanted to share a little review on Chris’ Campground in Spearfish SD.
We stayed there during our recent trip to the Sturgis Rally. With no reservation we stayed in the “overflow” section which is to say we stayed in the pasture out back. This was by choice as the main CG was pretty full and the overflow provided a little more privacy and was very quiet. During the rally, rates for overflow were $20 per night compared to $35 in the main CG area. Non-rally dates are $19 basic/tent and $30 with Elect/H2O. I have to say this was one of the most enjoyable CG’s I’ve stayed in even out back in the overflow area. Upon checking in, they “escort” you to your spot to show you where the bathhouse, pool, washer/dryer area is. Bath house is very clean and well lit, there is also an overflow shower area in a modified mobile home, also very clean and well lit. They provide wood (at a charge) for your fire and have a great little store for some of the basics to include both cubed and block ice. It is family run and with a flair of treating you like family, that is to say they busted my chops like my own family does. During the rally only, they have two very good vendors come in a cook breakfast and dinner. These vendors really provided great meals and with service next to none. Due to the variety they offered, we ended up eating breakfast and dinner there over our four night stay and had something different each meal (pancakes, biscuits & gravy, omelets for breakfast, ribeye, pork chops and BBQ ribs for dinner) Again, this is only during the rally dates but my point is they really cater to their audience. We had a hearty breakfast before our daily rides and then were able to enjoy some libations and a good meal without cooking or going out after drinking. While cooking is a big part of camping for us, this trip was pretty busy and not having to shop, cook and clean was on target for our needs. The location is just off of the 14-A Canyon Parkway and centrally located for great rides to Rushmore, Deadwood, Sundance and Devils Tower to name a few of the great day ride points of interest.

All in all, a great place due to both facilities and owner involvement. Embarrassed to say I didn’t take any pics of the CG but below are but a few of the sights from our enjoyable trip.

filed it away for the next time we go to the Hills.

I 'd looked at Chris's Campground before our trip to Sturgis 2013....
but ended up staying at Spokane Creek Campground on Iron Mt Road.

Hope ya had as good time as we was a great rally and great weather. (during the day anyway)

    Thanks for sharing.
