St. George Island State Park - Florida

This park is located at the eastern end of St. George Island. Once you pass the entrance it is about two miles until you turn left into the CG. There is one long loop with 60 sites. All sites have electric and water. Most have some shade if you set up correctly however I would stay away from 1 thru 8 and 54 to 60. We stayed on site 40 and it was a good spot. There is some primitive camping but it is carry in only (and that is about a 2.5 mile walk).
There are two very nice bath houses with nice showers and plenty of hot water.
Although not camped directly on the water you are only a short stroll to the sound (north) side of the strand and it is about a half mile walk or drive to the closest beach access on the gulf (south) side. The beach is one of the nicest around. It reminds me very much of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We were here in mid May and pretty much had it to ourselves.
If you plan to stay during the peak season, reservations are a must.
There is only one grocery store once you are on the island. It is quite a way from the CG and not cheap. Try to get what you need before leaving the mainland.

    Not so primitive site 40
    Keep the dirty side down.

Wife and I stayed there for a week in November last year....used it as sort of a base camp for touring north Florida. Weather was great and bugs were not bad at all. Located behind high sand dunes and well sheltered from most wind. Unless one gets very lucky reservations are a must.
