R Shaefer Heard, West Point GA

West Point, GA. This was just a 90 minute drive for us, but it was a good getaway for the weekend. R.Shaefer Heard is in a group of other A.C.E. campsites. This was a nice campsite, but the restrooms and showers were dispersed a bit. Had to take a good walk to use the head! There were a lot of sites that had water views..we had a good vista of Eagles Point. No local campstore or firewood available, but there was plenty of fallen wood for the campfires. Just outside of the campground is a good walking/hiking trail. We wound up doing the lakeside trail and did about 6mile of hiking. Per night is $24....seems to be common in GA. Only 5 miles from Alabama!

Thanks for the review. We enjoyed a quick get-away this weekend from Atlanta. Very nice camp ground and hosts (Cindi) Were lucky enough to get the last "tent" spot for our Timeout, otherwise we would've had to use the "deck" area which is not too bad, just cannot get close enough to the fire ring for my liking.
