    Wapiti Municipal Campground, Canmore, AB

Wapiti Municipal Campground, Canmore, AB (just southeast of Banff and Banff, NP on TransCanada Hwy. 1) -- In the gorgeous Canadian Rockies! The campground is on the north end of town just in behind the Visitorís Center. Itís very near the railroad and the TransCanada, so itís not as quiet as some places (we donít mind it). They are inexpensive, have firewood and firepits, smaller campsitesóbut comfortable, clean bathrooms/showers, and no other amenities. Since itís right at the edge of town, there are plenty of nice places to eat, C-stores, gas, whatever. Here is a link to their website: http://www.wapiticamping.com/index.html

From Canmore, it is an easy ride to Calgary; over into Kootenai NP in British Columbia (and on down to Fairmont Hot Springs, BC); anywhere in Banff NP (such as Castle Mountain or Lake Louise); or the incredible ride through the Kananaskis Provincial Park in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies in Southern Alberta.

It is hard to beat Banff and the Canadian Rockies! The Bow River valley and parkway are spectacular. We love going back up there every chance we get. Canmore is much more affordable and less crowded than the town of Banff (at the south end of Banff NP)óbut still very nice and somewhat upscale. It is close enough, though, to get to Banff and see the spectacular Banff Lodge, and take the gondola ride, etc.

Bottom lineÖ We Love Alberta! (...in spite of having to come back through US border crossing, ugh!!)
