    Salt Springs Recreational Area, Florida

Well, the weather finally broke down here so its time to camp.Just came back from a nice long weekend at the Salt Springs Recreational Area. The weather was perfect. 75 degrees and got down to 42 degees at night. The campground is very nice with large shaded sites. Each site has a fire ring/grill combo and a lantern post. $18.50 per night for up to 5 people. The bathroom/shower facilities are super clean with HOT water. The showers are the "push button" type. The first push gets the water up to temperture and then after that you have to push the button every 45 seconds.

Since I pulled a "Wild Hogs" on my other tent (burnt it to the ground with camp fuel) we purchased this new Kelty Zodiac 4. It's sold exclusively at Target for $99 bucks but I got it on sale for $68. The tent is 10x8 and has a five foot ceiling height. This tent is super easy to set up. There are none of those pain in the butt pole sleeves. All hooks. It has a full rainfly and a hugh screened vestibule.

The riding up in the Ocala National Forest area is outstanding. The little lost Florida towns are cool. About 40 miles north is the town of Minacopy. It's where they filmed the movie Doc Holywood with Michael J. Fox. What a nice little town. There is a little resturant there called the Old Florida Cafe. Outstanding food. And cheap!!!!!!

Next outing in three weeks.........."Sun you Buns" BMW Rally in Venice, Florida.

Sorry to hear about the "blazing tent", but it looks like you found a great replacement for a good price. Looks like you all had a great trip. I miss traveling in that area, I haven't been there since 07.

I was just down in Fl last week. Did a little 2800 mile Sunday Ride. Stayed in Starke Fl. at the KOA. I do like riding the roads down there. Thank you for sharing.

Been here several times, most recent visit two weeks ago....spent a week there topping it off with a 3-day Bluegrass Festival about 20 miles up the road near Palatka...at the Roadheavers Boys Ranch....two festivals a year, one in November and the other in February...Google it if one likes Bluegrass...(Palatka Bluegrass Festival)...
