    Land Between the Lakes

Backwoods camping is permitted in the LBL except close to the trace and not in cemetries. There is a ton of places to camp where roads were cut off when the lakes were formed. Lots of them are to shallow to launch a boat so your not bothered by fishermen wanting to put in a boat. Year pass for backwoods camping is 25.00 per person if your 2up. Been camping down there since 69 and still haven't camped in all avaiable spots. Wonderful area if you like solitude and lake shore camping.

Yes in the picture camp is at carmack bay on lake barkley side. In the fall they drop the water level after labor day and then theres lots of gravel bars to camp on. The LBL is one of the best places to remote camp east of mississpi river, second would be shawnee national forest but it doesn't have near as many as the LBL.

Yes to the nat forest c/g, they are not real developed mosty just vault toilets and some have water spigot, theres Teal Pond, Red bud around Bell Smith Springs area and Pounds Hollow, Garden of the Gods. There is also quite a few state parks in the forest like, Glen O Jones Lake, Lake Glendale, Ferne Cliff and Cave in Rock. Tower Rock has a small Nat Forest c/g at it.

Elephant rocks is in Missouri, doesn't have a camping area but real close to Johnson Shut Ins which does have a brand new camping area that is great. The old one got washed away when a dam broke, new one was built up hill from the river(black). Great riding area.

Years ago we always camped at Cravens Bay. I need to try to find some of the camping pictures we took from 30 years ago, I'm sure they would be good for a laugh!
