To start out this years camping extravaganza, I chose Joshua Tree National Park in CA. Just a quick 12 hour ride from home, this is the first time I have been there. The park is a must see on anyones list. Though it pales somewhat in comparison to parks north of it ie. Sequoia, Kings Canyon and Yosemite. it is well worth the trip.
The campground is set among the rock formations and the sites are far enough apart that you feel like you are out there alone. I was lucky enough to get a site which had a natural heater that came in handy during the cold evenings. The fire ring was in between two large bolders, one larger than the other. The campfire heated up the larger of the two and radiated heat which made it quite comfortable. Although there are few facilites just a pit toilet and no potable water, you are only 5 miles from the town of Joshua Tree which has everything you may need. I have enclosed a few pictures of my site
