Been an interesting year..... But I got some new wheels!

Last August (2019) I took delivery on this 2016 BMW S1000XR Premium Edition w/6000 miles.

This replaces the 2006 Kawasaki Concours that wonderfully escorted me about the country for 8 years.

A fantastic bike, that always got me there and back again. Never left me stranded. I can't say enough
good things about my '06 Connie. Miles of smiles.

But, I felt it was time for a change. Something a bit sportier, yet comfortable enough to tour with.
Months of trying different bikes led me to the XR. Excellent handling, more than enough power, ample
luggage and ability to haul more, and all the bells and whistles I could ask for on a bike (except a cup holder).

Shortly after the XR arrived, I was introduced to AFIB at work, and a Rapid Ventricular Rate incident that got
me an overnight stay in a very expensive room, and almost no sleep from all the beeping and automated BP
monitoring. This put my riding on hold for a few months, as the medicine given to me had horrible side effects,
including dizziness, fainting spells and vertigo. It seems that an otherwise healthy 55 yr old with normal blood pressure
doesn't react to the myriad of drugs used for AFIB that also lowers blood pressure... Bringing mine down too low.

So began a 6 month roller coaster ride with different meds, RVR attacks and plenty of Doctor visits... yea!

Happily, I found a new Cardiologist, and he put me on a fast track to getting my heart rate stable again, and
back to work, as well as back on two wheels. I've only logged about 2500 miles on the bike since I got it.

I did use the 'downtime' to install aux lighting, some tip over bars, an aux brake light, a top case, and a
Canbus system to integrate all the farkels into the existing controls (very cool!).

Covid-19 has halted motocamping, so that is a pain I'm sure to be sharing with most folks here.

Here's where I found the new scoot at a Motorrad test ride back in 2018...

From there I tried everything I could get a test ride on to compare, but I always ended up wanting the XR.

Hopefully I can pack up and get out riding again. I miss the mountains. Need a camping trip. Bad.

    Stay Well All!

Thanks folks. The new ride has been awesome for local jaunts.
I really want to get it out for some canyon carvin'. Hopefully
by September I can get up to Two Wheels for a long weekend.

Great choice in bikes and very glad you have kicked the AFib and are now in "normal" rhythm...Had an experience with that and was on Coumadin for a year or so...Doc gave me a choice....eliminate any alcohol and caffeine from my diet and he would take me off the "thinner." I gave up my limited amount of beer and coffee "cold turkey" and have been off the thinner for a couple of years....don't really miss the beverages of my past life....and have been AFib free for several years....knock-knock...Good luck with both the bike and the AFib.

Thanks. Glad to hear you're beating it. It's not fun. I've also cut back alcohol consumption drastically.
Only one cup of coffee a day, no caffienated drinks during the day.... so little caffiene intake all along for me.
No thinners for me. 1 Aspirin daily.... I'm at basically 0% risk of stroke.

As for the bike... I'm lovin' it!! I highly recommend one if you have the means.

I don't know, sounds a lot like a mid life crisis.... You're right about the Connie's, everybody that I know that had them never said anything bad about them.
