Can't believe the world is shutting down for this virus. The common cold has killed more people then it has...

It’s unreal, people have lost their mind over toilet paper here! Hopefully it will clear out soon!

Three hundred million people in the US, one hundred died from virus and they've shut down the entire country. China where it all started a month ago hasn't had a death from it in two days according to the NEWS this morning.

I boil everyone I meet in alcohol, or we just have a beer...one or the other. Looking in the sunny side. My guess is that no campgrounds will be open anywhere soon.

The yare trying to slow the upward curve as we dont have the medical bed space to take care of everyone all at once , unlike China which just comes in and takes what it needs and tells its people you will work on building this or we will end you we have processes they have to go through to get more beds and equipment.
Also spo far from the number it is 10 times more likely to kill someone than the normal flu , so we get 20+ K die from normal flu, now we get another 30 to 40K+ from this strand on top of it and the death rate will be much much higher due to lack of medical care mot then the flu itself,
Remember the swine flu where they were dropping like flies outside out border but barley made a ripple in the states because we have medical care pretty accessible to all of us,
There are exceptions and I do agree those with money and insurance get care faster and sometimes more but its there .
I think all this is to slow the spread until we get prepared more, after all most our drugs come from China and most our medical equipment comes from china s owe be slow to start up

Unless the US gov is totally lying about this virus being fairly mild, it just doesn't make sense. More die around here from bad meth than any virus. Actually, more die from random shootings here, a few get shot every night around central Alabama mostly drug related. We've had far more deaths over the years from virus outbreaks and nothing was shut down like it is now. Maybe the fatality rate is ebola or MERS level and they ain't sayin... Doesn't make sense, people are panicked around here. Never seen the grocery store shelves cleaned out week after week. Aren't we talking a .07% to 3% kill ratio? Unless thats BS, it doesn't sound that deadly. More like China trying to get rid of the older folks with a mild virus that targets our weaker immune systems.

Well, your estimated kill rate is probably in the ballpark, but that makes the kill rate 80 to 300 times higher than the flu. Still the rush on grocery stores makes no sense. My biggest concern is that the way that we are responding is going to make this last months instead of weeks. We should shut down everything nonessential for a month and then we could start again.

As sour as it tastes that is the best action that could be taken. Knee jerk reactions are typically only a quick fix or distraction but a total shut-down of NON-essentials would greatly reduce the opportunity for the spread of the virus.
Like ImRubicon said, we don't have enough meds/beds to handle the curve if it isn't slowed down and flattened out. Ice rinks and refrigerated trailers are now being used as temporary morgues in other countries and here in the USA as well. If we would all be 100% honest and stay home and only go out to purchase the mere essentials (and only go out if we are well and not sick in any form), the shelves would have more inventory and the virus would be on the downward trend/slope.

Till then we can only hope that there will still be some campgrounds open for folks who are healthy and haven't been exposed!
