    Elk Neck State Park, MD

Did a spontaneous one night camping out on Saturday morning. The heatwave had just broken and we were in for a beautiful Sat & Sun. The Bunkhouse was already loaded, just needed to add a couple essential items. From our house it is about a 1 hr 20min drive to Elk Neck State Park. Getting thru the town of NorthEast was the toughest part of the trip. We arrived hoping to find a campsite and to our surprise there was a number of available site to be had. We grabbed site #120 on the Choptank loop. No water or electricity, but great facilities. For a one night stay with no reservations and Maryland "Golden Pass" we were charged $17.99...Such a bargain! Nice walking trails, good camp store, lots of places coming into the CG to purchase good firewood. Ride into NorthEast is about 15 minutes..good restaurant for breakfast and lunch Pier 1 Inn

"Elk Neck State Park is located in Cecil County on a peninsula, formed by the Chesapeake Bay on the west and the Elk River on the east. The park boasts over 2,188 acres of varied landscapes including marshlands, heavily wooded areas, white clay cliffs, and sandy shorelines. Elk Neck opened to the public in the early 1940s with the purpose of providing recreation in the form of camping, swimming, fishing, boating, and hiking, all of which are still popular today."

Nice CG write and photos!! That part of the country is heavily populated so, yes, I would say you were very lucky to get a CG spot on a "spur of the moment" trip.

    Thanks!

Actually there were 20+ sites available! We had a nice quiet spot with a minimal walk to the facilities. Lots of downed limbs for fire starter firewood too!
