    Aspen Classic trailer through Canada

    Hello,

We have an Aspen Classic trailer and will be heading to Niagra Falls this summer. The trailer does not need to be registered in our home state of Wisconsin. Will I need any particular paperwork for the trailer to cross into Canada?

    Thanks

Do you have a license plate since you don't register it?

I have pulled my RAH thru Canada but Alaska registers trailers and they have plates. Maybe one of the folks from none register states will chime in.

No plates. If a collapsible trailer is less than 3,000 pounds, combined, then no registration is needed.

Have you got ownership/title/bill of sale for it?

I've crossed the border lots of times, can't remember them ever checking for plates on the trailer. Of course I have them so they might have and not said anything. I'm sure if you just tel them that they're not required in your state that they won't say anything.

When you approach the booth, a camera takes a photo of the rear license plate of the last part of your rig. If just on a bike/cage/truck, then it snaps a photo of whatever it is that you're driving.
If you are towing a trailer, then it snaps a photo of the trailer's plate!!! ... so ... they'll ask you for your vehicle plate # and quite possibly about your trailer. Hence the reason I ask if you have title/ownership/bill of sale for the trailer! You may have to produce a document to prove ownership! Depends on the Border Agent! As always, it's a crap shoot!
