    1988 B&F Specialties Bunkhouse camper

    Hi,

I just picked up this 1988 B&F Specialties Bunkhouse camper trailer off of craigslist for $900.00. The camper is in good shape for it's age but the tent material (not canvas) is worn (thin) in some places where light comes through but not ripped. I looked up B&F Specialties but the number listed for them in 2481 Delta Lane Elk Grove Village, Il 60007 847-350-9333 is no longer correct. I wanted to see the price of replacing the canvas. If I can't get the tent material replaced what, in your opinion, is the best way/product to use to patch the worn areas?

They are under new ownership by Bushtec in TN

You would be better to just go to a local upholstery or awning shop and have them make a new tent using the old as a pattern.

Aspen makes a replacement unit you can bolt on the trailer body.
I don't know if Bushtec offers it.

Another option is to contact Bear Creek Canvas and ask what they would charge for a new tent.

I have the same 1988 BH (black body) that I got off of EBay for $600 about 8 years ago. I also had to replace the tent material as the original tent material was in bad shape. At the time BH was still owned by the original owners in Elk Grove Village, Il. I was able to order a new replacement tent from then for $400 or so. Was well worth getting the replacement! Very easy to change out. Would recommend using a soldering iron to burn and seal holes in the nylon strapping that attaches the tent to the base of the camper. I also use a pop-riveter to reinstall. All in all it took about an hour to replace. Just noticed that you are in GA, used to live in Douglasville, GA until 2013.

Thanks, Here is a pic of the worst spot in upper right hand corner. I have an upholstery guy locally so going to see what he thinks. I used to live in Blakeslee PA. right near the Pocono Raceway.

That could be fixed..easy to take the material off to repair, but if that is the original material, it may be worth getting new if you can afford it. Ours was ripping in the lower middle, where it opens and closes when you open it for storage. Repaired it a couple time before getting the new material. BIG improvement. We have pulled ours all over the place including a 24day 6600 mile trip from GA to CA and back!

I also added a cooler carrier to the tongue of the trailer..can send you pictures later if you are interested..

I had to modify the carrier for use with a vertical hitch, but reused the carrier I had and had it extended for a larger cooler and reinforced for the vertical receiver hitch.
