    Distinguished Gentleman's Ride 2017 - Sunday September 24

    Gentlemen:

This is not a campout, but it certainly is a good cause and worth posting.

For those that don't know, this is an organized ride to raise awareness and money for Prostate Cancer. The ride is conducted in many cities world wide on the same day. If you go to the website, you may find a ride in your area when they are posted later this month or rearly next month. You can also sponsor a ride in your area if none are available. As someone whom has lost family members to Prostate Cancer, I am motivated to go every year.

The "Theme" of the ride is to dress up and ride a vintage machine or modern classic. The bikes you will see at DGR are custom Cafe Racers, old Customs, Standards, Classics, Antique and Vintage machines from decades ago and similar. "Classic Bikes" is the underlying theme of the ride. Very few Sport Tours or Cruisers or similar modern bikes take part, because that's not the theme, and organizers ask riders to adhere to the theme of the ride. I ride my 1982 Honda GL-500 Interstate Twisted V.

I am sorry to hear that, but you certainly are not alone, and today (thankfully) there are many excellent avenues of treatment.

Hopefully you have caught it early and it can be cured. Keep us posted, please.

In 1955, my Grandfather opted for radical removal at the first sign of the disease. Can you imagine the pain and complications of this kind of surgery in 1955? I wouldn't be surprised if they sent him home with a prescription for aspirin back then. But he survived, cancer free. Brave man given the surgical procedures and knowledge of the disease at that time. Today, it is a world of difference. We are lucky by comparison. My Father chose to ignore the symptoms until it had already matasitsized to his right hip, and then it was too late. Same with my Uncle. Too late. And both of these cases were in the mid 90's. There have been many improvements in treatment and standards since then. So by comparison, we are lucky.

The DGR ride is "for a cure" as well as to raise awareness of the disease. Even though a cure seems elusive today, in 15-20 years it may not seem so elusive. So the ride is for a very good cause, and it is worth taking part in if you have a classic machine you can ride.

This ride is fast approaching folks. The registration is now open.

If you have a classic or vintage bike and want to participate, check and see if a ride is organized in your area, or organize one yourself. It's for a VERY good cause.
