best timing for a "around the Great Lakes" ride"?

I'm planning my '17 ride and want to go around the Great Lakes as a theme. I have planned to hit the south side of the lakes in the Duluth area, heading around the South side of the lakes then up the St Lawrence and kick around the maritime areas of NE Canada and then back on the North side and returning on the Canadian side of the lakes.

Any expertise in the timing of this due to weather or such would be most appreciated!

I'm cross posting this to ST-Owners too.

I've toured around Lake Michigan several times and growing up in Michigan I would say weather is best between June - early September. After that weather is starting to be unpredictable between cold and rain.

I agree with Don - Mid June to Late Aug. Sept can see Hurricanes in the Maritimes!!
Mid June sees decently warm temps and a fairly stable air mass. Not sure bout Stateside, but kids up here don't get out of school until very late June (>24th +/-) so tourist traffic and campground use is light.
Even early Sept can see some campgrounds on the CDN side of the lakes shut down and some pretty chilly weather move into the Maritimes! DAMHIKT!

You'll get some kind of biting flying insect pretty well throughout the end of May through to the end of Aug most places up here!

Thanks guys! Cold don't scare me... I've camped Glacier, in August, in the snow!! But bugs! ahhh.. bugs.. I hate em! Guess August might be the best bet then.. Figured the trip would be wetter than most.

Camping in the wind has less insects.
