Tent Trail Rut Campground and Golf Course - Guernsey, Wy.

Nice small campground in the south edeg of town and near Ft. Laramie. They let us put up the Aspen pop up in a shady, grass, site near their pump house so we would have electric.

Very nice, helpful staff. Bath house/showers are recently painted and very servicable. Price was $15 which was great. Not much to choose from in town to eat other than gas station chicken, a "drive in" burger/ice cream joint, and a bar. Although the last Sunday of each month the VFW puts on a great, all you can eat breakfast that costs $8 ($6 for seniors). We lucked out and were able to take advantage of that!

Trail Rut Nat'l historic site, and Registration Cliff NHS are both within a mile if you are interested in Oregon Trail history. It was amazing to see a 6 foot deep, 5 ft. wide "rut" that was cut into solid rock by the wagons and animals on their way west.

This is a reasonable, safe, stop over.

Did you happen to ride through Guernsey State park? Nice skinny little twisty road with cliffs dropping straight off to the lake. Or visit the Miners bar in Hartville just north east of Guernsey? Lots of mining history along with the oldest bar in WY originally custom built in Germany for a Cheyenne bar. Shipped to New York and then on the railroad to Cheyenne and later wagon freighted to Fort Laramie and eventually ended up in Hartville.
