I just saw that Eureka is offering some rebates on 2006 tents - The Pinnacle Pass 2 XTA looks like a good one $139 - $30 rebate...

I'd get the XTA and not the A, the A version is cheaper but the vestibules are not full,
they are half open - if that makes sense, here's what that one looks like:

I have a Eureka 2XTA tent, really don't like it. I am used to old fashioned tents that have zippered windows accessable from the inside of the tent, the 2XTA only has one venting adjustment, that is you can stake out a side panel of the rainfly. Great on a hot evening, but not so great at 3am when it has chilled off and you are freezing in your tent. Only way to close the flap is to get out of your sleeping bag, unzip the tent, unzip the fly then walk around the vestibule to pull out the stake. By that time, you have lost any warmth in your tent and bag.

So the A version (bottom) that has a partial rain fly is a better option? On my Apex, the most venting I typically use is just the part of the fly that isn't staked out. I do admit, if it gets cold, I have to open the tent and crawl out a little to zip up the rain fly.
There are some single walled tents that probably offer a better option like this one:

I picked up a 2005 Eureka Apex 3XTA closeout on eBay for $103 (3-man, aluminum poles). Got a Eureka tent loft for it on same site for about $6.50.

Here it is in the garage getting seam-sealed.

I would prefer the tent with full vestibules. I have a Sierra Designs that is similar with full vestibules. The full vestibules allow for gear storage. I do not expect my tent to keep me warm, only dry and bug free. I expect my sleeping bag and mattress to keep me warm. Any adjustments I need to make during the night can be made inside the tent and even the bag. Once I am in my bag, I rarely get, out except to get up.

This is hard to do if you drink a few beers b-4 calling it a night. LOL
Big Bandit welcome to the site and thanks for all the great post.
