I checked this place out on my way back from work today.

Lake Ray Roberts has 4 major camping areas, Johnson Branch (North), Isle Du Bois (South), Pilot Point (East) and Sanger (West). I'm reviewing the southern area, Isle Du Bois.

Location:
100 PW 4137
Pilot Point TX 76258-8944
(940) 686-2148
GPS Coordinates (N33 21.934 W97 00.716)
Date of visit:
January 1st, 2008

Weather:
It was 35-50 the day of the visit.

Campground Condition:

There are lots of Tent site and also water/electric sites
The TENT sites I saw were a park and hike type configuration however, the sites were very close to the parking lot so you were still in sight of your bike/vehicle - The Hawthorn campground seemed to have the best configuration and also had a very nice restroom/shower area.

I tried to stay at this campground during a very busy holiday (cant remember if it was Memorial Day or Fourth of July) several years ago only to find out that not only were their campsites completely full but they were not letting any vehicles into the park because they had reached capacity. They would only let additional vehicles in once one exited. I wasnt inclined to wait to get into some place that busy.

Long story short, it was my fault to think I could drive up and camp on a busy weekend but I would have loved to at least park the bike to do a little scouting and hiking.

Unfortunately, I havent been back since. I will make it a point to go this year.....just not on a holiday.

I almost forgot to mention that this campground is with ~10miles from Clarks BBQ in Tioga. If you havent heard of it look it up. It is some of North Texas' best. I'll leave it at that.

I've been by this park entrance many times and never stopped to look. Thanks for the review Joe.
