Recommendations for 1 night camping within 50 miles of DFW

My brother in law is coming up for Christmas and it's becoming a tradition for my wife and I and him to go tent camping for 1 night before Christmas. Last year we went to Eisenhower St Park and got a large site for 2 tents on a bluff looking out over Texoma. It was nice if a little cool and breezy (it was Christmas after all!) Currently we are thinking about going back there but wondered if anyone else has any suggestions. We would like to stay within about 50 miles of the DFW area since are only going for 1 night. We definitely want to avoid the RV campers, but at the same time want water and a fire ring (probably not primitive camping since we don't want to haul a bunch of stuff to the site and back for one night). Interestingly enough I haven't camped anywhere near where I live.. LOL..

I was thinking Possum Kingdom but who wants to drive through dallas/ft worth to get there?

I'd give Ray Roberts lake a shot just for something different. As far as scenery, Lake Texoma is probably the best closest choice.. there are so many areas to camp within that park you could just try a different area.

If you go just a little further, Lake Murray State Park is pretty cool, never camped there but have ridden around it and it looks like a nice area.

How about Meridian State Park west of Hillsboro. It is a bit furher than your 50 miles from DFW. I Mapquested it at about 70 miles from Fort Worth. They have the camping shelters, you know screened in camping with a roof so you don't have to mess with a tent. Nice restrooms with showers, and a beautiful lake with lots of hiking trails. Should not be too crowded this time of year. BTW the tent and camping shelters are away from the RV camping.
