It's official and it was a landslide.
It's Motomac! I met him for breakfast this morning. He left Ohio yesterday and made it
to Texarkana last night. He's planning on hitting Yuma, AZ by the end of the day and
left breakfast, in Fort Worth, around 9am.
Mac will camp with a tent or a Bunkhouse and always manages to bring his dutch oven and
provide fresh biscuits in the morning.
Here's a pic from my camera phone.
Update: Mac finally got home and passed these words of thanks along:
First I would like to thank all of you who voted for me as your MOTY.
Don?t know what I did to deserve it, but thanks. I have been riding motorcycles since 1958.
My first camping trip on a motorcycle was in 1971. I had a BMW R75/5 and packed up two
shelter halves (Marine Corp pup tent) and a sleeping bag and camped on a road trip from my
Dad?s house in PA to where I was stationed in Ft Worth TX. There was no floor in this rig so
I was on the ground in my sleeping bag with a small tent over my head. It was in
September, so the overnight temperature was comfortable. I pulled into a rest area and
rode off to the far side of an area that wasn?t mowed and set up camp. No camp fire, no
stove, no pots and pans, just set up, went to sleep and got up, packed up and headed on
down the road.
During my first trip to Alaska in ?95, I met a guy on a Gold Wing with a brand new Bunkhouse.
I watched him set it up from my travel trailer and thought, Mac you need one of those. I
got the information from him and upon return to TX, I ordered my first Bunkhouse. I rode the
?98 Wing I had with the Bunkhouse in tow to Alaska in ?99. I had wanted to do this trip
since I was in High School and the movie ?North to Alaska? came out. I have pictures of
some of this trip posted on this board. I went back to Alaska in ?05 with a new Bunkhouse
and an ?01 Wing. Took my SO with me on this trip and we had a super time. She had a total
of 75 miles on the back of a motorcycle when we left Ohio, and was ready to go back again
when we returned home. I love to travel and love to camp when I travel. There is so much
more to experience when camping then when in a hotel/motel room. I really would like to
experience Alaska again, but in a tent and dual sport bike. Yeah I made it to Inuvik on a
Wing with a Bunkhouse in tow, but I would like to see Yellowknife, the Denali Highway, and
other things that are more dual sport oriented.
Thanks again for the award.
