I'm planning a camping trip to the Big Bend area for Thursday, Friday and Saturday 2/23-25.
I'm going to be leaving early and heading to Guadalupe National Park on Wednesday afternoon 2/22 and then on Thursday ride over to Davis Mtn. State Park. That will be base camp for me and will be riding to Big Bend National Park from there Fri and Sat.
Anyone is more than welcome to join, just shout so I know you're coming.

I'll be there. Joe are you gonna be at the state park on Thursday night?
I'm off from Wed-Sun so I'm gonna try and head out early also.
I think I'm gonna buy a new sleeping bag that will accomidate my big feet better but I'll probably have to let them hang out the end of the bag!:(

Yes, I'm actually leaving tuesday after work if I can swing it and ride towards Guadalupe NP on Wed night, then, Davis Mtns SP on Thurs/Fri/Sat nights. I'll pack some extra oil for that Harley if you bring a stuffed animal for the Wing.

If it's snowing this time can we camp in the National Park? It's warmer there, you know!

Aw... ooookkkaaaayyyyy... but I still need to hit you with a snowball, I kept missing last time.
Actually, one snow outing is enough for me, it's okay if it's cold but I'd prefer a dry cold...

I spent 3 1/2 years in TX in the late 60's and early 70's and don't remember much of that fluffy white stuff south of Dallas. I spent 13 months in Houston and the rest of the time in Ft Worth. I remember a couple of Blue Northers in Ft Worth, but it rarely got cold enough to have frost on the windshields in Houston. How often does it snow way down south? I am considering doing this campout in February, it all depends how much of that fluffy stuff is up here in NE OH when it comes time to head south. Dick McKechnie Canton OH

It's pretty rare. Of all the times we've been to Big Bend, about twice a year, this was the first snow we ever got... it does get cold enough for frost but it's such a dry area. I would count on a cold night but doubt it will snow, the odds are with us.:D

Sure, why not... but that's first come first serve.. and not many sites there... I think we'll be fine... :D

Hey Joe -- is this still the schedule? We're getting close enough now that maybe you know what the work schedule is... :con1:
I'm still programmed for Thursday and Friday off. The invitation to spend Wednesday night here still stands... :tent4:
Hey, do I need to make reservations at Davis Mountain SP or what?? According to their flier we can have up to eight folks at one site. Unless they get strict about the number of vehicles we should be OK.. Let me know what you think about the reservation.. I don't mind getting one... :tent5:

Jerry,
I'm planning on leaving here next tuesday after work and heading into the pan handle.. then to Guadalupe NP on Wednesday and maybe into Roswell and Carlsbad.
Thursday I'm heading to Ft Davis. I have never made reservations as even when it was a busy time, there were always places to camp so I just wait 'til I get there. Not sure what time I'll be there but we usually get the camping spot on the main road towards the Indian Lodge and next to the bathrooms/showers.

When are y'all getting to Big Bend? Are y'all planning to camp up in the Chisos Basin? Sounds like Big Bend State park is an option. Also sounds like most of y'all are coming from up North and stopping at other locations before actually arriving in Big Bend. I am basically due east of Big Bend and it is far enough away without taking any detours up north. If I can nail down when and where to meet y'all in Big Bend I might take Friday off and come. Joe, I believe you called this dance, can you help me out?

Base camp will be at Davis Mtns State Park near Ft Davis.
I'll be there Thursday afternoon, maybe even before noon as I'll be coming from the El Paso direction.
All in all, there will be around 10 bikes coming from Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Angelo areas and a guy from Louisiana and even one from Georgia.
There will be some Wings, Beemers, Harleys.. so it will be a good mix of riding as the beemers and one vstrom will be hitting the dirt and the rest of us will be riding the paved sections.
If you get there Thursday afternoon, I'll be on a Blue Wing and Gold Rush will probably be there on his Gold colored Wing, there will probably be a BMW GS and a couple Harleys from Houton too that show up that afternoon. Go near site 62 as that's where we will try to make camp. What are you riding? So I keep an eye out for ya.
Oh, considered Chisos Basin but no showers and we just have traditionally liked Davis Mtns State Park... If the weather changes we might collectively decide to move to a different location but we won't do that until everyone is there.

Who is coming from Austin? I am in San Marcos, maybe we could ride together. I would get there late on Thursday, riding a black Bandit 1200S, with black fiberglass saddlebags and a big red waterproof duffel straped to the back seat.

As Rosanna Rosanna Danna used to say "Nevermind". Ever since I read about this trip I was thinking I could not go and then today I thought "Why not? I don't have my kids that weekend". I just remembered the commitment that prevents me from going. Sorry!

Sorry to hear that. Would have been nice to meet you.
If you change your plans, we'll still be there.
Guess we'll need a hill country ride now to make up for this.

Man, am I ready for this trip... I've been on call more times this year than I can recall all of last year and I'm riding to work as much as I can just to get a little riding fix.
This should be a good trip, lots of great guys going and they are all very colorful personalities so I doubt there will be many quiet 'awkward' moments.. :D
I don't know what there will be more of, BS or Farts....

I'm predicting more BS! However, since I won't be participating in any of the BS, I will assume my function as Minister of Truth in order to keep the stories straight.
