Correction....
Changed to the
Hill Country
Location
Garner State Park, south TX
Date
December 7-9, 2007
That's it... I'll probably head there after work on the 6th (Thursday)
Friday - we'll ride the area
Saturday - We'll head for LDDaves 8th annual BBQ RTE (http://www.st-owners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30980) in Taylor, TX
No real plans because that would just mess everything up.

Unfortunately, I'm in a position I never thought I would be as a bachelor. Still don't have any update on the SO's condition. We don't live together, but if they schedule her for surgery, I will be the one to take her to the hospital. Joe, you know me well enough that if possible, I'll be there.

There will be other events that's for sure, take care of her because in life all we have is each other. Keep us updated.

I just got back last week from a trip to Hill Country/Big Bend and Fort Davis. I found SR 118 to be quite a pleasant surprise. SR17 north of Ft Davis was not too bad either. Enjoy it!

Looks like I will be able to do this. The SO's surgery is happening Monday Nov 26. She will be back home around the 2nd of Dec and not much I can do for her then, so I'll be ready for another trip.

Make the trip to the H.C. and take a sling shot. Deer are all over the place at Garner. That way you can have the best of both worlds, bike trip and harrassing the deer. (actually, there are so many down there the deer are probably more of a harrassment to the human population. BE CAREFUL DOWN THERE!)

Are they worser than Kerrville State Park?????? LOL, they walked right through the camp sites there. Bedded down just across the road from us.

Kerrville SP is the worst I've seen... Riding into Garner you always see a herd and once in a while they'll wander into the site but there must be a lot of city campers that feed them at Kerrville because they walk right up to you.

Davis Mtns SP is similar, we've seen the park host put food out for the deer and it's an almost riot as they head towards them.

Trailace even tried to get one for dinner but he was a little slow.

And, in the end, he just didn't have the heart so they made friends.

I know how to fall trees and cut 'em up for camp fire wood!!!!! Is it legal to do that in TX? It wasn't in FL, but I didn't know that until after I dropped the dead pine tree!!!

Sometimes, Garner has some nice trees just sitting out in the open...

I have not looked that far ahead yet. With the SO in the hospital, not knowing when she gets out, I just am not sure when I'll leave. She has a daughter and son that live close by so I don't need to care for her when she gets out, but..... I really would like to leave here the 4th and take it easy on the way out there. I'll be in touch. Dang that picture looks like a heck of a lot of work. Bow saws are so much less strenuous!!!

I just got back from Garner SP and a few other cool places and will tell more later on. I did not bring my camera so we will have to wait on Joe?s pictures.
The little GX did better on the road than I though it wood and it never got less than 55 MPG. Should be a lot of fun once I get her set up for ADV MotoCamping,
Joe and BJ had a good time camping with you guys. We need to do it again real soon.

I think i could go with just the 650 but it would be hard to do 1,000 mile days with the 2.4 Gallon tank. But a bigger tank is on the way. :D
I not sure if Joe would want to have me slow him down all the time.:(

Slow? I wouldn't say it was a slow bike, it's not like I was waiting for you at every stop sign... LOL
It was actually nice to not be on the interstate and just cruising. We didn't cover the same distance we normally do but we saw more taking the back roads. There are some ranches in the camp verde, tx area that are so huge the driveways w/large gates are all you see, you never actually see the main house and the few 'worker' houses that were just off the road - FM480 I think, were bigger than my house.
Good pictures; looks like you had a good ride.
Looked like you were replacing spark plugs after you got to the park?
Easier to find time to do your maintenance on the road than at home? Or was it warmer there... :)

Well, I replaced them before I left... my trip to my parents were fine but then about 3/4 of the way to Garner SP I was passing someone and the bike was lurching. I thought one of the spark plug wires were loose, pulled the covers and pulled/pushed the wires back in. The bike still lurched the next day. Decided I probably had a bad plug so while we were waiting for Garner to open, that's another story, I changed the plugs... well the 6th one I was replacing just snapped at the ceramic part... so I must have cracked it putting it on. The bike runs much better on 6 cylinders. :takepics1:
The bike runs much better on 5 cylinders. :takepics1:
Who would have guessed! :)
