Camping at Bogachiel State park and area Touring
Left on Friday about 4:30 pm, cloudy but Sun and 68.
Fearing the impending Traffic holdups at the Narrows Bridge went by the wayside when we arrived in the area and, wow, no traffic. It appears as though the new, additional narrows bridge has really helped with this issue. After skating across the bridge, the weather and traffic was a breeze all the way to the Hood canal floating bridge and on to our first stop in Sequim, WA.
We grabbed a couple coffees and took a short break before continuing on and closer to our destination. About 10 miles past Port Angeles sits Crescent Lake right next to Hwy 101. This area is both beautiful and a great scenic Ride with the lake right there next to you and around every corner. This section of 101 and the whole lake run through part of the Olympic National Park. The sun is now starting to go down which was making for some great scenic views. Enjoying the ride so much, it was about this time I look down and see that I should have fueled up in Sequim when we stopped. In the next few miles I see a sign for Forks, 26 miles. Not long after, I see my Red fuel warning light come on and I know I?m good for a solid 20 miles after the light comes on, so I set the cruise at 55 and ride it out. As it turned out, we were getting very good mileage on that tank and we had almost a gallon left when we filled up in Forks.
From there it was about 15 miles down the Hwy to Bogachiel Campground for the night. We get there and find out they don?t sell firewood, so it was a mad dash back into Forks to get some wood before we could set up the Trailer. We bought 4 bundles of wood, 2 of kindling and two 6 hour fire logs. We boxed them all up on top of the Trailer and race back before they close the gate at 10 pm. We get there at 9:50 and the gate is shut, I check and it?s not locked so all was good?.LOL. We set up, get a fire going, a late dinner and enjoy the night fireside. 180 miles for the day....
Saturday, up at 6 am, small fire and something to eat. We leave about 9 am for La Push, Rialto Beach and Forks. We get back at camp about noon and have lunch before heading out to the HOH Rain Forest. Get back about 4 pm, get the fire started for the evening and have a nice HOT dinner. All these areas were great and can be seen in the below link.
130 miles for the day....
6 am Sunday, been raining all night :storm1: but only a light drizzle now. Get up, get something to eat and start packing up for the ride home. Light misting/rain for about the first 75 miles but the ride is nice. We stop in Hoquiam for fuel, the rain has stopped but we are now back in traffic the rest of the way home.
About 495 miles on this Trip that was nice, even with the little rain we endured.
Looking forward to the next one??.:tent5:
