Hell Everyone,
I am new to this site. Though I have done many cross country trips on motorcycles, I have not been moto camping since 1987, so I feel like I am starting over again as far as that is concerned. There have been more than a couple of inovations since I last camped out in a tent, so it has been interesting learning about them. I have purchased just about all of the gear I should need for me and my wife. My wife and I are looking forward to our first camping trip. Now that we have all of our gear, I am just looking for a rather cool place to go (that is not too far away), as the weather here in Houston has started to become a bit uncomfortable.
Anyway, I look forward to being part of this board, and hopefully we will see each other someday where the air is clean in a beautiful forest and a river runs through it.

Welcome Dan!
What part of Houston do you live? I'm Northwest right near Cypress.

Well in that case, it is good to know that you get out on your Wing as much as you do, otherwise you might need to be hospitalized
Seriously, it sounds like you have lots of fun out there on your Wing. It is good to know that there are some other people here in Texas that like to camp out. My wife has never been camping before, and she is really looking forward to it, so we have many happy trails ahead of us :tent8:

I am on the Northeast side in Humble. Yes, I am familiar with Mellow from the ST board. He seems like a rather lively fella, which is good (he keeps everyone awake). I look forward to getting to join him on one of his camping trips. I want to see how he keeps that blow up head attached to the pillion. I don't know, my last Wing was a '02. I know they are coming with air bags now  , maybe they have seatbelts now too. ;)

Welcome Texas, (I keep telling Joe and Rick that's just part of Southern Ohio). Hope to meet you at one of the events on either Moto or ST boards.

Thanks, I do too. Actually, I am looking for a better solution for towels. I have been looking at the new microfiber towels. I believe they are much lighter, much more absorbant, and they might dry themselves quicker. Does anyone know anything about this, or know where I can get a good sized one for less than $10 each?

Laugh at me, but I read on the BMWMOA camping site about using an "absorber" car drying towel about 6-7 years ago and have been very satisfied with these. The only issue I have had was when my wife couldn't find the one for the car and used my camp 'towel' for the car. I bought a new one for me. These are synthetic replacements for shammi cloths, you wring them out and store them in their holder still wet so you don;t have to wait on them to dry and actually do a great job soaking up water. Cost is roughly $10.

Actually, I have used that for a few years for my cars and bikes. I will admit that I briefly thought about using that for drying off, but I thought that since my skin wasn't clear coated, it wouldn't work. The next time I wash the bike, I will have to hose myself down with the powerwasher and see if I can get completely dry with that shammi (I wonder what the neighbors will think?).

I use an MSR Camp Towel (http://www.motocampers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=201) and it has been great. The problem with the car wash towels is that when they dry they are hard. This stays soft and is about 1/2 the thickness of the car wash ones and will dry quickly. They aren't cheap but you only need one and it's well worth it in my opinion.

That's a micro fiber towell isn't it mellow? I have been using a small one for my face shield a few years and can't seem to tear it up. Just clean it with soap, rinse it out and it dries very quickly.

I'm not sure if that's what it's called.. but it is great.

Yeah, microfiber is cool. I have several little ones that I use for polishing everything to the softest of plastics. They are super absorbant too. That was what I originally wanted, but I know they are about $30 each for a good size one. Since we are two-up, that is $60 just for a couple of towels. If anyone knows of a really good deal on these, let me know.
