Has anyone camped in any of the Lincoln Nat'l Forest campgrounds in Cloudcroft? I've ridden thru there on trips but never stopped and camped. It seems like a great place to beat the summer heat. Would liketoknow how the camping is there. I'll probably make a trip there in August when I can't stand the heat any longer.

Packsaddle and silver on the road out of town towards Ruidoso. It has been a few years since I was there but they were nice campgrounds. Might be a little crowded. There is a more primitive campground in Karr canyon, and then some on the San Antonio river[small creek]
just check with the forest office in the village they have directions to all of the campgrounds. Great area for spending a few days.

I remember the area being beautiful, but I also remember it's the only time I've ever come close to hitting a deer. Coming down from Cloudcroft to Alamogordo, deer jumped across the road and came within 6 feet in front of me! I didn't hit, but the adrenaline that shocked my system made me dizzy. And this was in middle of the day around noon. Sorry I don't know about campgrounds around there, I was just passing through to Las Cruces. But watch out for deer up there.

I stayed in Apachie Campground last September after Memorial Day. It was very nice & the third time I have camped in Cloudcroft over the years. What surprized me was I had excellent cell phone service! There are the standard amenities, people are friendly and the riding in the area is wonderful. Be sure to visit the Sunspot Scenic Highway. I also had to visit Weed, NM just because...I highly recommend the area. FWIW

Hey thanks for chiming in Artravlr. And welcome to the forum! I hope to hear more of your travels. What are your favorite Ar camping spots? I venture to the hot springs area a couple times a year.

You're welcome.

I like the Daisy State park area on US70 one hour west of Hot Springs. Good campgrounds of various levels of comfort. However, I have not found a good cafe in the area. There are good mountain roads, a low level of population density and it is near a National Forest. There are private, Corp of Engineers & State operated campsgrounds in the area.

The Ouachita National Forest provides good ORV entertainment & the camping is better in the winter than the summer when it can become too humid for comfort. The ONF survives heavy recreational use all year.

Okay, yeah just pick a date.

I'm not sure about the 29th now.. LOL.. we have a friend that is having surgery and I'm the official dog-sitter for her and we promised we'd watch it for her.

Her surgery had issues yesterday and they couldn't complete it so I might be free.

We camped at a place back in the 90's in Ruidosa called Twin Spruce RV Park. Ruidosa is not that far from Cloudcroft. We were there for the Golden Aspen Rally. It was a really nice place. Had all the extras clean restrooms with showers, laundry facilities, I think they even had a pool. Right in Ruidosa just minutes from the race track and casinos if you so inclined. They have a website at . . .
