Hi everyone - LDMike here...

Just wanted to stop by and introduce myself - I'm a seriously addicted LD rider (just finished a 48+ ride to all of the 49 continental states in 10 days) who occasionally stops the merry-go-round to sniff the flowers and go camping.

That's what I'm going to do this coming holiday - heading up the western side of Michigan along the lake, over the bridge and spend some time in the wilderness of the UP. I've been there before and camped there before as well, but it's time to unwind and enjoy everything that this part of the country has to offer... rich history, practically unpopulated country and parks - beautiful....

Looking forward to gaining some insight from the group about how to make the camping more enjoyable...

Welcome Mike!

Great job on the 48+ ride how many days did it take you to complete it? I was thinking of doing it myself but this year it has been all work and no ride or camp. Hope to turn this around soon.

If you have any question just ask.

Rick

:hi1: Welcome LDMike,

do you have some pics of places you have been or maybe a bit about your favorite campgrounds? :)

Thanks for the warm welcome ,everyone...

Trailace: the entire trip took almost 3 weeks. I left from Breckinridge, MN which is about 500 miles away from my home and got there a day early to avoid last minute rush and the tension that comes along with being rushed. The 48+ itself took 10 days and I ended up in Hyder, Alaska in time for Ron Ayres annual get together - Hyder Seek. It took me 6 days to get back from Hyder - partly because I was pretty well shot from the ride - and partly because I wanted to kick back a little. Went thru the Canadian Rockies (spectacular!), down into Montana and across Rte 2 to Duluth, then south to home. Total trip was about 12K miles.

Tx White Knight: Two of my favorite places I've been are Jackson Hole, WY and Munising, MI. There is a small campground across the street from the visitors center in downtown Jackson Hole behind a bar/liquor store, laundromat and restaurant (how convenient!) that was just perfect. It was cold that night because I had frost on the saddle the next morning.
The campsite in Munising was a county(?) park just outside the city limits and I stopped there without reservations on a Labor Day weekend. I was right on the waters of Lake Superior. Spent a wonderful night there and went on the next day to the top of the Keewenau Peninsula to stay at Ft. Wilkins National Park - again w/o reservations on a holiday weekend. I'm probably going to go back there this trip as well.

PS When I figure out how to compress photos from ~1Mb to under the photo limit, I'll post pictures.

Mike,

Welcome?.
You might try making an album on yahoo photos. It is free and very easy to use.
Then you can post a link to it...:takepics2:

Sorry Mike, this site doesn't have the activity to allow bigger pictures/bandwidth as we can't afford to upgrade the hosting until that activity and contributions are at a more constant amount. The Paint program on your windows pc will allow you to resize and compress images.

Hey Joe,

You got a week to get here if you want to get away from all that rain and camp in the sun by the White River. Lots of room for another tent on the best site there...and I'll bring the beer...lol;)
