The canisters - I have some 540 gram ones - last a long time.

I got this for between $25-$30 and the canisters are an extra $5-8 depending on how big you want. The stove is now about $20 on amazon.

I have a little box I put this and some other misc. soft items but it's been very durable and I would not have thought it was going to last this long.

This works great in conjunction with the Lumostar C 270 Lantern (http://www.motocampers.com/forums/showthread.php?p=152)

I have an older version of this stove without the built-in starter and have had it for several years. Mine has more of a wire-type pot holder and it folds down to almost nothing, then fits in a small rugged cordura bag that I normally stow inside a small titanium pot. Boils water fast, yet simmers great, too. It's a great small stove.

Like Joe said, the cannisters, available in two sizes, last quite a while and also work on the GAZ lantern.

While I have several stoves (okay, I'm a stove freak), primarily from backpacking and mountaineering, this one tends to be my favorite unless very cold weather is involved; then I want my MSR Dragonfly.

Hey, ya, BNE

Big 5 Sporting Goods is the local (read greater southwest) carrier of the stove and lantern. Yep, they still have them and brother do they work. Bob (AZDesert rider) has the pair and they work good. Well. Fine.

I'm thinking I need the lantern, it works that well. I have a Coleman single burner that does ok, but I really like that lantern.

Thanks Joe and Tom...
Wow great price!I was looking around and saw this same stove with PZ igniter...what are your thoughts about that stove? Its a little more than the regular twister...is it worth the extra $?Another question..I notice the stoves' are for sale and obviously the fuel is sold separate...but I dont see any it available online...do I have to go to some outlet store to buy it?

Yep. Can't ship Propane...at least not with any economy. Oh. and those GAZ brand canisters and stuff have their own thread pattern, only ones that will fit.

But still it is really good stuff...

As good as this looks to be...I could not find any stores in this area that carry the correct Gaz containers so looks like I have to rule this one out...I may end up with a penny stove though;)

I end up ordering a case of the big ones. Takes a while to burn through one.

REI usually has the smaller canisters but I've never seen any of the bigger ones locally so mail order it is.

Ben, the good thing is your gear is probably just fine and you may not need to tweak it much if at all. That being said, think about all the nights in hotels vs the money you just spent.

I started motocamping as a way to afford to tour on the bike - before that I was only doing 2 or 3 trips a year that were just weekenders - now, for the same money a weekender in hotels equals a week or more tour...

Once you get the major parts of your gear together as you've done, then try it all out on a trip or two, you might tweak a few things but odds are they will be little things. After all that, you'll be more comfortable in your tent then you ever remember being in a hotel... plus, you can start fires... most hotels don't like that... :tent6:

Gee Joe ...I love starting fires...LOL and OFC I agree with what you've said. While its been 30 years or more since I was a serious backpacker/camper...I recall how much I used my gear every week.So yeah the initial expenses are done with on the major pieces of camp gear, and its just tweaking the little STuff.Heck if I become homeless I could still camp:eek:At one point in time I was very adept at living off the land...lessons learned are never forgotten...just a little buried in the receses of the brain, but still there;)Gotten a tad bit soft in my old age:D

Tom, if ya want a lantern, try this:

Oops, further research says it don't work. The video is convincing, tho. ;D
