It might be a kick to do this year's Wolf's Head (http://www.wolfsheadrally.com/index.html) Rally. The focus is the Lake Superior loop ride.
This year, they've arranged for a base camp at Spirit Mountain (http://www.spiritmt.com/summerfun.aspx), with digs from tent camping right on up to rental villas.
This year's bash is July 9 - 13. There's also a Lake of The Woods tour on 7/9 - 12 if you're not up for the big lake loop. You earn a merit badge or some such for successful completion of either tour.
The campsite might be a worthy addition to the list since there's nothing posted for MN. Oh, and arrange to tour the Aerostich factory and store in nearby Duluth while you're there.
It's a good time of year to visit MN since the mosquitos and black flies stop blotting out the sun up there around the end of May...I still wouldn't advise going around in just a thong, though...
