Seems to be one of those yearly events where you can alway's expect to ride in a little rain. This year was the same. After 2 riders backing out on us at the last minute the 4 of us that were left headed out at 7:30 am Friday the 20th to meet for breakfast at the Summit Cafe atop the Cajon Pass on I-15 at 9:00 am. The rain had let up some so light rain was the morning commute for us all the way to the top. Glad we were north bound as there was a HUGE accedent on the south bound side of the pass at Cleaghorn which closed down the south bound side and backed traffic all the way back pass Victorville.
After a GREAT omlette we mounted up and continued up the I-15 to the 395 were we found sunshine once again. Krammer Junction we hung a left and took the 58 all the way to Commanche Dr. were we continued to the 178 that runs along the Kern River up to Lake Isabella. A quick gas stop and then the last 10 miles on up to the Mountain and River Adventures Campground were we had the intire campgroung for the weekend. After choosing a good site I got out the tarp and got it settup over our picnic table. This gave us a nice dry place to off load our bikes. Tent settup followed along with getting things situated for the next 3 days.

Saturday morning things were all pretty much frozen from the 20? temps along with everything being wet from the day before. Made my early morning run and started making coffee with my good ol' IKEA espresso maker. Cut up some veggies and mixed in some Soyrizo (something new) and added the egg substitute and had a GREAT scramble for breakfast.
A lot of people were up and around and geting ready for there little day excersions. Me, I settled in to enjoy a nice warm sunny day of doing nothing. This is the part of camping that I do best, nothing.
7:00 pm rolled around and the dinner call went out. I stayed in camp and made my own meal as I need to stick to my Diabetic diet. I eat better than most when camping and really enjoy a nice piece of Salmon.
Saturday was a perfect day but rain was once again in the forcast for early Sunday am. And sure enough at about 2:30 am I woke up to the sound of rain hitting the tent. Went back to sleep and around 7:00 am it was time to get up again and start the slow process of packing things up wet. It was a light rain at this point so it wasn't too bad packing things up. The new tarp seems to be one of my best additions to camping. First thing to go up and the last thing to come down and get packed away. Nice to be able to pull everything out of the tent and have a nice dry place to set things till its time to put it on the bike. At 9:00 am we were all ready to go. The only thing left was the tarp which we sat under for a bit longer finishing or coffee and giving others a place to escape from the rain. Mark ( who was hoteling it ) showed up so we pulled down the tarp and headed into Kernville for a nice breakfast of eggs and bacon.
The ride home was back through town were we picked up the 178 and headed for the 14 on down to the 138. Gassed up in Palmdale and headed for the Cajon Pass which took us all the way home. I was in my garage by 2:15 pm.
Total milage for the weekend on my GPS read 498 miles. Was a GREAT weekend trip even though we did ride in the rain. My year old Cycleport with rain linners and Gerbing Electrics is really hard to beat for comfort in the rain. I stayed warm and dry and had yet another great time camping from the bike.
