I bought this little lantern at REI a couple years ago and it's still going strong.
The frosted glass makes the light from this lantern soft yet it covers a wide area.
The canisters - I have some 540 gram ones - last a long time and if you want coffee in the morning there's a stove type option.
I got this for between $25-$30 and the canisters are an extra $5-8 depending on how big you want.
I have a little box I put this and some other misc. soft items but it's been very durable and I would not have thought it was going to last this long.

I just found a place, www.thecampingsource.com (http://www.thecampingsource.com/catalog/camping_gaz_lumostar_c270_lantern_4161572.htm) that has these for $20.
The one w/built in igniter is $25.

I have one very similar to this, but without the built in ignitor. I also have the GAZ Turbo 270 burner--they fit on the same GAZ cartridges. It puts out very good light and is simple and ruggedly built. I have had mine for several years and had no problems at all. Mine came with a small plastic case that holds it and a spare mantle or two, although the mantles seem to travel pretty well.
Of course, I do not normally use this in a tent, but use a battery-powered lantern or headlamp inside.

I wish mine had a plastic case, I just use the box it came it which has held up well and the mantles do seem to hold up better than I would have thought.

Joe, like I said, I've had mine for several years and I think it is a GAZ brand. I've also had the Turbo 270 stove that uses the same gas cannisters for several years, too. While I seem to collect backpacking stoves and have several different ones (one reason is because I used to do a lot of backpacking and high-altitude mountaineering), I tend to use the 270 a lot because it is so handy, no messing with liquid fuel. It boils water very quickly, too.
While I know this is not a stove thread, it does sort of fit in because of the ability to use the same cartridge type for both stove and lantern. My other favorite stove is the MSR Dragonfly, it can go from a very slow simmer to jet propulsion heat.

I also have the stove w/starter. I thought I had a review on it but I can't find it... will have to add one today. It's a nice little collapsible stove, not as small as some but good enough.

The one I have is the GAZ Bivouac. REI no longer lists it, but they do have the globe for it. I know because I had to order one of them today when I found mine had a crack in it. :(

Where is the best place to buy replacement mantles? The local Big 5 store here in Yuma stocks the large & small rep lament fuel but has no mantles. Looks like THIS PLACE (http://www.frontiersurvival.com/camgazlumc2p.html)has them. Anyone ever deal with Frontier Survival?
Used my Lumostar Camping Gaz Lantern last weekend on the V-Strom's first camp trip. Can't believe how great that baby works.

I've never dealt with that place but the storefront looks like so many others, not sure if that's good or bad.
The manltes on these lanterns sure seem like they last a long time. I think I've put some of the generic coleman mantles on before and it worked fine once it was primed.
I think I have 1 left, I should probably get some more as well.

Thanks Joe,
I have only used mine once & the mantle is still good, but, I figure the chances of me needing one are far less if I have one.
Going to check out 'Get out Outfitters' now.

I think the one on mine has been on it for a year...
Looks like get out outfitters requires $20 min

Probably worth it to just hit REI in person for these if they stock them.

I wish this post would have been up yesterday morning, I went to REI I could have picked them up an mailed them out.
All I could find on my list in the store was the pump for my stove and I picked up some extra tent stakes for spares :(

I am looking to replace my current stove and lantern. I saw you are using this lantern and I see there is a stove available.
Do have any trouble getting fuel for it? Where can fuel, mantles, & other parts be purchased? I have a bid on the lantern on ebay that I am winning right now. I ahve been to web site you gave for the stove. Although it doesn't give much info. I don't remember if Academy carries fuel for these or not. Is REI the only place that has them? I live in Burleson south of FTW so REI isn't very close at all.

Marty,
Last time I was at Academy in Plano, they had some... seems only the small ones are usually in stock. I've always had to mail order the larger canisters but they do last a pretty long time so ordering 6 should cover you for many trips..
I've used the mantles that walmart sells for their mini-lanterns, once you prime them, they are fine... I seem to be able to keep one mantle on for over a year even with the thing bouncing around in the trunk so they also appear to last a while. There are no other parts that I'm aware of.
If you don't win the bid... I have 2 of these, one with the starter and one without. If you are interested in the one without, let me know.

Thanks for the info I will check the Academy here in Burleson for the cannisters. I also put a bid on Campingaz Globe Trotter Stove, but after looking closer at it I think it uses different cannisters. I think it uses the screw on cannister. So I hope I get beat out on it, since I don't think I retract my bid. I want the stove and lantern to use the same stuff.
The stove and lantern I have now uses the big Propane bottles about 6 or 8 inches tall and screw on. The stove itself is about 8 or 9 inches in diameter and pretty bulky. The lantern is a Coleman single mantle similar to the Campingaz in size, but it screws on also.
I just want to downsize stuff for we are carrying everything on the bikes not pulling the trailer.

Any one know where to get one of these with the igniter for under $30 bucks? I cant get the link in the fist post to work. I did find it one place, but they wanted another $13 to ship it.
Maybe I'll just go for the standard one if I cant find the other one I want,
Mellow, still got one available?

Yup, I still have the non-igniter one. Just let me know.
