Zur alten Schmiede (http://bikertreff.de/cms/index.php)
30th Anniversary! P^

Henry and co. are celebrating their 30th year in the bike camper business, and he's reworked his website and thanks to lower taxes, he's lowered some prices.

Address
Alte Rossgasse 2
54550 Daun-Puetzborn

Tel.: (049) 06592-985441
FAX: (049) 01212-698544266
Cell: (049) 0151-17044744

email: info@bikertreff.de (Henry builds his own website and has form pages, but unless you do Deutsch you'd be better off just dropping him a note).

This biker-only (well, OK, biker and horsey types) establishment is one of the first biker camping/hotels in Germany if not in Europe. It's probably worth going out of your way to visit, just for the ambiance and variety. Zur alten Schmiede (The Old Forge) is in the German Eifel/Hunsrueck area just north of (if I may be so bold) the most scenic river valley in Germany -- the Mosel.

If you think you're saddlesore when you get there, take a spin on a mountain bike or on horseback (western style). You'll probably be oh, so happy to get back on the old "Feuerstuhl" (German slang = "fire stool", or motorcycle) again!

The website is always being updated. For more details, click on the website's English flag and then the "download" button. Then burrow down for the '2010eng' English brochure in Word format.

Accommodations & Prices/Range

Note: all prices are for 2010.

Tenting pure is free, but with buffet breakfast it's 7.50 Euros. No self-sufficient camping/cooking is permitted.
Barracks-style bunk dorms in the "Geisterbahn" ("House of Horrors") and "Fahrerlager" (Rider's Bunkhouse); 1-2 nights, 15.50 Euros/person/night; 3 or more nights, 13 Euros/person/night.
2-person rooms; 1-2 nights, 40.50 Euros/person/night; 3 or more nights, 36.50 Euros/person/night.
Single room: 27.50/person/night.
Coin-operated showers (5 minutes)
Tenters/bunkers provide their own bedding/bags and towels, and may be required by the local municipality to either take their trash with them when they leave or pay a disposal fee of 5 Euros per bag of trash. So if you bag it you may want to "share".

Open Season/Times

Services & Amenities

All-you-can-eat buffet breakfast: 7.50 Euros/person

"down") through tunnels, over the old railroad bridge and past extinct volcanoes to the Mosel river. Take the ride down (http://www.eifel-radtouren.de/radwege/maare_mosel_radweg/micro/grafik/mm_hoehenprofil.gif) and a public bus can bring you and the bike back from the train station to Daun.

Gruss dich, Henry...

toi, toi, toi!

Awsome. I have no idea what you wrote... but it's fun trying to make a basic translation.:D

One of my regrets is I took Spanish (way back when) in school instead of German..... not that I can converse well in Spanish though.

Sorry, apologies to all. I should've clarified...my German is marginal and Babelfish probably hurls all over any attempts to translate this stuff...

Henry is the owner of "Zur alten Schmiede", and those msg's. start with his thanking me for posting info. about his place in Germany on the Motocampers site (I have absolutely no vested interest...I just know of his place and wanted others to know).

The last couple of msg's. are about Henry's plan to attend Daytona Bike Week this year and suggesting that we get together. The last note from me regrettably has to say "no" because of the flakey spring plains weather and the fact that I'm in the midst of some home remodelling work. I signed off with wishes that he have fun and should watch out for left-turners in cages.

Unlike me, if anyone's heading to Daytona drop Henry a note (in English) and you can arrange to meet up with him down there. He'd be happy to give you a handle on his place in one of Germany's most beautiful areas, the Eifel park and lake district. With the $ in the toilet, it's cheap digs and good fun!

Cheers!

Hallo, Henry

OK, alles auf den neuesten Stand fuer 2008 gebracht. (OK, Henry. everything's updated for 2008.)

Ihr habt euch ein echtes "Landjacht" Camper zugelegt und es scheint als ob jede Menge Spass dabei auch gehabt. Dass macht das Ami-beer fast ertraeglich, oder?

(You got ahold of a real land yacht camper, and it looks like you had a lot of fun with it. It makes the American beer almost tolerable, right?)

Cheers!

Jack

I was remiss when Harley Henry, the owner of 'Zur Alten Schmiede', replied and I didn't do a translation. His comments aren't easy to decode because the German umlaut a and "double s" come up as "?".

He says, "Thank you, Jack. The American beer was super. If my wife lets me fly again, I'll be in Sturgis next year. Greetings to all American bikers."

Of course that was last year's Sturgis bash, so if someone was there and met Henry they were lucky. He sounds like a cool dude.
