This year's ride to Big Bend was my most enjoyable one yet.
Me and two friends, all of us on BMW R1150GS-Adventures, left Houston on
Feb. 21 and rode 525 miles to our usual stop, the Marathon Motel.

The next morning (burrr...it was 34 degrees) we rode through the park and made
our way to our friend Roger's place near Terlingua.

When we got to Roger's we set up our tents. That is mine on the far right.

It didn't take long for us to be ready to ride again.

Roger led us on some seldom used dirt roads north of Terlingua.

Here we are checking the map.

Here I am practicing donuts. :D

A rock cut a 1/2" hole in my back tire when we were fifteen miles from Terlingua,
and it was getting dark. Yep, cussing was heard. Four plugs, and a couple of uses
of the air pump got me back to Terlingua. The next day I went to nearby Cycletek
and they had only one tire that would fit my GS. It was a sportbike tire, but I was very
happy to get it because it would get me home.

Thursday morning's 34 degrees was a contrast to the temperature in the sun on
Friday afternoon.

Friday afternoon the wind started blowing incredibly hard. This is Jim's tent struggling
to stay up in the wind.

The weather was perfect, my riding partners were great, and once again we had a
fantastic trip. We make this trip every year, and I'm thinking that we need to make
it out there twice a year.
