I'm taking a leisurely ride down to Key West the second week of March.

I plan to run back roads and camp in State parks.

Any route or Park suggestions?

Hey Gordon,
Upstate NY isn't too much out of your way either is it??? Let me dig out a path for you first! LOL

That sounds like a great ride for you. I suspect you'll ride down the gulf side of Florida to get ot Rt 1... although that's a guess on my part. So what are your choices? Interstate or regular state roads, right? I have read that it's not very wise to leave your camp gear alone in the Keys as it tends to grow legs a little more often than other places. Maybe others have more insight there.

I have driven a rental car from Miami out to Key West and loved it. It has GOT to be a blast on a bike. Can't wait to see the report and pics.

Come on down guys, there's room for everybody down here in the sunshine state.

Rode down the East coast last year and had a great ride but most of the roads over there during Bike Week were extremely crowded. Last year I stayed with relatives and didn't camp, this year I plan on camping all the way to check out the state parks.

2 years ago I stayed at Manatee Springs State Park and thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope to have similar experiences throughout the state this year.

Try RT 441 down by Okechobie (spelling ?) decent 2 lane with out much traffic, fairly easy access to RT 1 around Homestead. I used to stay at Knights Key campground the week after bike week, but I understand they sold out to some condominium company. Don't miss Boondocks bar and grill I think is is at milepost 27.5 but possibly 29.5 Oldtimers has struck again.
