I just spent the last 4 or 5 hours watching the Long Way Round and was wondering what other thought about it. :couch1: To me it was somewhat entertaining but not near what I had hope it would be. It seems to me they spent more time sight seeing that they did riding. There was only about an hour of riding video and the rest was them eating, talking and hanging out. Maybe it was hard to video where the riding was difficult. I always forget to stop and take pictures when the road is fun or real hard. They did not do a whole lot of :tent5: in the great outdoors either.

Maybe I?m just jealous they have the money and time to do a great ride like this.:o Feel free to tell me like it is I can take it.

I haven't seen it yet, but have heard mixed reviews.

I think it would probably be a boring video if it was just riding.. at least for most people.. we'd probably love it.. but I doubt it would be as marketable for the masses... who knows..

I thought it was GREAT. I have watched my copy (Canada version, 3 DVD set with all 10 episodes & extra footage) about 4 times. Watched them straight through the day I got them, couldn't turn it off.

Have you guys heard they are gonna do another set called "Long Way Down"?

Also, looking forward to "Road Less Traveled (http://www.roadlesstraveledmovie.com/)", a movie about a few guys riding the Trans-American Trail (http://www.transamtrail.com/). Be sure to watch the movies on both links. I'd LOVE to ride the TAT.

I loved it... I plan to buy the Candian (10 episode) version also. I have the book they co-wrote, which did a good job of explaining what & why of lots of stuff not shown on the program. I will also watch the Long Way Down.... and the Long Way Up (up the Americas).

A agree the video wasn't totally what some long distance motocyclists might enjoy... but it does have appeal to non-bikers... like my wife. She loved it and the book. too.

Here is a blog (http://www.etribes.com/markstowe) of a guy who did almost the same ride. Great story anyone up for it?

I have only seen a few episodes when it was being aired on TV, and I really enjoyed what I saw. It was one of the reasons I purchased by GS1150 Adv.

I too have both the book and the movie. I enjoyed both, and got to thinking about the video. I think the plan with it was to appeal to m/c's first, and non-riders next. The market for riders only is too small to justify the expence to the participants and the sponsors, so to deliver it in a way that shows more human-interest and less biking makes sense.

I really enjoyed actually seeing the bikes being ridden in some knarly areas, but was captivated by the different folks met along the way. This is much more than a motorcycle movie; it's a documentary on life. Albeit on a small scale.

The book, as is usual, delved more deeply into the key players, allowing us a look into the people who would endeavor to make such a journey.

All in all, I'm glad I purchased both, and will still get enjoyment each time I read / watch.

For those who have seen it.....Eian (sp?) seems to be moved by a little girl in one of the UCEF children homes they visited - she was a little brown haired girl with lipstick or something smudged on her face. He just sits and stares at her a bit. This year, it was reported in the press that he adopted a little girl from one of the homes they visited on their trip. I can't help but to think it was her. Very touching, indeed.

Great DVD have both US and Canadian version also the book which is a lot more detailed.
I believe Ewen did adopt that little girl she was a real cutie reminds me of my grand daughter. The Canadian version is 3 discs. Charley did DaKAR and they filmed it. Pretty good. I would try it if I was 40 years younger.

From A girls point of view....I am not one for long movies of any kind, I can't sit still that long. I thought it was a pretty good movie. Just watching what they went through , made me tired ! Just looking at the map of the journey makes me tired! :) Anyway, I liked it.

And Trailace....Thanks for the Good link to that guys blog. When I was looking through there, it said he had never even ridden a bike before, and had enrolled himself in a class before he went. He said he was inspired after watching "Long Way Round". Pretty amazing...See, now I am tired again just thinking about it ! ;)
