Location:
Joshua Tree National Park lies 140 miles east of Los Angeles, 175 miles northeast of San Diego, and 215 miles southwest of Las Vegas.

You can approach it from Interstate 10 and Hwy 62 (Twentynine Palms Highway).

The closest airport is in Palm Springs. Public transportation to the park is not available. (760) 367-5500

Date of visit:
September, 2006

Weather:
Very hot during the day but cooled off nicely at night, it was comfortable for sleeping.

Campground Condition:

There are many campground, we stayed at the Indian Cove campground which was probably the least scenic of the entire area but still very nice.

The sites are pretty much open areas with lots of sand.
The park roads are dirt/gravel/sand so be careful, again, this is mainly for the Indian Cove campground, many others in the main park area looked much nicer.Area Riding:
This was just a stop for the night on our way to Sequoia NP and then the coast so we did not have time to explore the area much but just the roads and veiws inside the park are INCREDIBLE.

Mellow,

I wish I knew you were in the area. I work at Joshua Tree NP as one of the LEO's. Yes, the road in Indian Cove is not in the best of shape. For those wanting to see the park, the main park roads are in great shape. From 29 palms through the park and back out to Joshua Tree, the road is new in the past 2 years. The road to Cottonwood is ok, but is not as nice as the others. The best campground for the bike is Jumbo Rocks. This campground has pavement. The others are fine, as the sand is hard packed.

The busy times are from mid Oct to end of Nov. Then is picks back up in March and April. If you stay in the main part of the park, bring water. There is nothing up there and you will have to go back into town to get some.

Enjoy!

I wish I had known. We were there long enough to catch the sunset while riding the main park road and seeing all the Joshua Trees, incredible site..

I'll let you know the next time.

Got any good pics of the Joshua Tress? We got up early and left so we could make it through Sequoia NP and then the coast.

Joe,

I do, but I need to shrink the file size to get them to fit on the site. I will work on that.
