Has anyone camped at St. Joe State Park? My upcoming trip will send me right by the park and it seems to be a good location to spend a night.

I haven't stayed at that one in a long long time, but I wouldn't hesatate to stay in any Missouri State Park. Every one that I have stayed at has been very nice.

St. Joe is a big time ORV park with over 2000 acres of trails and sand flats for 4 wheelers, dune buggies, and dirt bikes.
If peace and quiet is your goal you might try a different park.

Thanks Guys, I think I'll look into another Missouri State Park. Any Suggestions? I'll enter Missouri on Hwy 72 then Missouri 8 then Hwy 63. I'm looking for something in the southeastern part of Missouri.

Thanks again!

There are a few good ones in SEMO. I always liked Johnson Shut-Ins. Lake Wappapello is also pretty nice.

Hawn SP is a favorite of mine for backpacking and the campground looks very nice although I've not actually slept there, only have done back country camping there.

Marble Creek Rec Area is in a good area also but has no potable water.

Loggers Lake is one I have not stayed at yet either but did a ride through this summer just to check it out. It takes a fair amount of dirt road (7 miles or so) to get to it but it looked like a winner for peace and quiet and was very picturesque.

Others mentioned are also good.

Johnson Shut Ins has a brand new camping area after the river washed out the other one, real nice and quiet, fantastick shower and toliets. little farther south is Sam D Baker park and it is real nice too. Then there is float camp c/g all along the current river, although they get a little noise to them.

Thanks Guys!!!P^ I'll check all of them out. The dirt roads don't bother me at all, I'm riding a BMW F650GS with excellent Adventure Touring Tires! :D

I have 6 days to get from Georgia to Utah so going a bit off course is really nice.

Well if that's the case there are a ton of great fire roads to find in SEMO down along the Black river around Ironton and Anapolis. I have a friend with land down there and we used to ride dirt bikes and 4 wheelers all over the place. If you don't mind some primitave camping you can even camp in a lot of places just off the fire roads right on the river. I have spent many a pieceful night down there doing that.
