Well the state shut down has finally come to an end and now we can get back to living again. It'll be good to see the rest areas open again so weary travelers will have a safe place to stop. Visitor centers and state parks will be back in business ready to show off some of the great things our state has to offer. A few of the parks will take a little longer due to clean-up from storms and vandals but we have lots of other parks to chose from for now. So if you are planing on traveling through Minnesota in the near future, rest assure we'll be ready for you. :hatw1:

Good to hear Tim, we'll be heading through there after the Northwoods Campout.
Did the beer sales issue finally push it over the top? :lol

Did they figure out how much revenue they were losing? Glad to see its back up and running. Also seen that the Soudan Underground Mine State Park is number one in the raace for CokeCola's best park and the 100,000 dollar grant that goes with it.P^

Well, that's good to hear.
I don't understand the economics of shuttering rest areas, but AZ has done so, also. Maybe a visible reminder of the economic struggles???
I'll be there about the middle of August...

Yes, thank goodness!!! :run1: I was beginning to wonder if the days of rum running was going to come back. I believe everything will be up and running by the end of next week and I don't want to know how much revenue was lost over all of this foolishness in the last two weeks. Just glad to have all the services that I have been paying for all these years back in service.

Did not know that. Guess I should show my support by voting! Thanks! P^

Well I guess the joke is on me. The state is NOT open yet and the idiots at the capitol have as they say "come to an agreement". It'll still take a week or so to pass a few bills before they unlock the gates and resume business as usual. Sorry for the confusion.
Now where did I stash that beer.........

I watched a piece of tape on the news the other night where our senator stated his #1 priority was making sure the current president didn't get elected again. I was thinking, hmmm, maybe he needs a new priority, then I received a notice in the mail about my cost of living raise on my pension. How silly of me to think ill of him, now to just figure out how to spend all the extra money I have. I wonder what I can do with the extra $0.89 a month? :lol2

Bet you'll have to pay some sort of tax on it so in the end you'll actually be getting less and the government will come out looking good........

That's exactly why I retired! The state was making sweeping changes to their retirement system and I would've had to worked another five years to draw the same amount of money, so I got out while the getting was decent. I miss the money from the tons of overtime I got, but I scrape by. On the other hand, I'm no longer "On Call 24/7" which takes most of the stress out of my life.

Looks as if our shut-down is to your advantage. I know of quite a few people who have taken advantage of this. Have heard plenty of good comments on your fine state! P^

Looks like the MN State shut down is Officially over 10 min ago. Now they are saying it might take a week to get back to normal. I would think it would be a day at most to get their staff back to work!! I guess it is government, need I say More???

Finally the bickering is over and perhaps now we can get on with our lives again. I'm thinking it'll take at least a week for some things to open like the state parks damaged due to storms or vandals. Other things like rest areas and visitor centers shouldn't take long and the big rigs won't be filling up parking lots and side roads. Road construction is back on too and they will be busy making up for lost time so be aware of the congestion and detures. For the most part I would guess someone traveling through Minnesota with in the next week or so won't see much difference. I guess the coast is clear again so come on through!

It is a shame how intertwined government is in our lives. I thought we were a free society but after seeing how this crippled us. I am going to say once and for all we need less rules and regulation let the private sector pick up the pieces and make citizens stand on their own two feet.
Now if this heat would just go away I would go out for a ride!

No, sorry George, didn't mean for this to become a political discussion. Just wanted to give everyone who may be driving through MN a heads up on the status of our state parks, rest areas, visitor centers and other state services that may or may not be available to them.

I did a search on the internet the other day. One of the sites that came up was the MN State Library and when I clicked on the link the page that came up said the State of MN was closed and I could not have access.

State employees started going back today but it may take a day or two for them to re-start and up-date computers. Most state parks should be open by Friday or Saturday.
