Hi all,
I'm interested to know what YOU have or want as features which would make THE ULTIMATE TRAILER , whether it's an elaborate box or a full-on camper.... truth is, it's difficult to find a manufacturer here in OZ with off-the-shelf options..OK.. an ice-box and a luggage rack for the lid is about all there is ! I've just been talking with a bloke, with the right attitude, who will design a trailer with everything I want, so .. let me have it!! All you can think of, no matter how corny it may seem, if you needed it and didn't have it, or have it and find you can't live without it.
I guess I should be made aware of bits and pieces you thought would be great but found them to be useless or a waste of money as well.
In a nutshell, anything MOTO-TRAILER related, I want to know about it.
By the way...... the sooner the better... I'm gett'n older by the day and want to do my big ride asap.
Thanks all for your time and anticipated input.

Howdy From West Texas,
Here's the things I find most important about my cargo trailer:
Low profile/center of gravity for stability, lots of lighting in cargo area so you can find stuff at night (I have a battery installed so when I'm unhooked I still have lights), easy access to stuff, and of course least amount of weight possible. The last one is the hard one... When you start adding extras the pounds pile on...
Good luck on your project. :) :) :)

Let's assume cost is no problem!
For a camper, what I would want would end up being a cross between the Kamparoo camper (from down under), and the Tailwind trailer (from Texas). The Kamparoo is a great idea for ease of setup and use, including the pull out kitchen. The Tailwind is just beautiful and the aerodynamics make a difference, as does the suspension. Another interesting camper is the Timeout Slipstream, very easy to setup but it's only large enough for one person.
For a small utility trailer, the Uni-Go is the benchmark for me. The MonoGo from Canada is also a good idea. Large enough to be useful, small & light & easy to pull.

This camper is amazing and easy to use, and made in Au.

This cargo trailer is made in Texas, and a great design.
Aerodynamic, low CG, and an interesting suspension.

I like this single person camper too.

So... for campers... light, simple, low, and aerodynamic. Not just a box on wheels!
Was made in New Zealand, now made in the U.S., and still the standard in single wheel trailers.

A nice inexpensive, low center of gravity, single wheel trailer, made in Canada.

For cargo trailers... I guess I like these single wheel versions.

Most of the folks on this forum don't use trailers when they go camping. I personally have a Bunkhouse from B-F Specialties in Des Plaines IL that I use when I have the SO with me. It is my second one and I love it. I also have a Unigo that I am taking on its maiden voyage today and it holds all my tent camping gear. I also have a Breeze cargo trailer that is quite spacious that I use behind the Wing. the Breeze is for sale in the classified section.

The ultimate trailer?
Well...... I'm thinking one that can fold out into a 2-person tent. Sort of a platform that folds up into 1/4 it's size.
I'd prefer a 1-wheel trailer so it tracks with the bike and would be easy to put in a hotel room if necessary.
I'd also want at least enough cargo area for it so accommodate 1 large duffel/backpack worth of gear.
A place for a hidden spare tire/wheel would also be nice.
Low profile so it's not as affected by wind. Or, just aerodynamic.
I think that's it... LOL

I built my trailer with one need in mind. Cargo space. Well 2 really. Light weight and space. If you have enough space, you can bring whatever you need to bring. Mine is not large but it's by no means small either. But I'm only one guy. The box on mine holds 13 cubic feet of "stuff". I can easily pack my 12'x10' 2 room tent, queen size air matress, sleeping bag, 2 soccer-mom chairs, catylitic heater, light, mummy sleeping bag, all my motorcycling rain gear, extra jacket, matress pump, what else..........oh, soft cooler for the beer and well you get the point. And I still have plenty of space left over for whatever bums might be following me and need room for their "stuff"!:D

Well, my idea of the perfect one can be seen to the left in my avatar pic and on my website. It has all the room you could ever need for cargo space and living area and it sets up quick and easy. It fits most of Mellows needs but no Joe; you can?t have it?LOL
I also have a Bushtec Turbo II Cargo Trailer that is not used much.

Thank y'all for the response
Motomac ... lol.. no wonder most folk on this forum don't use a trailer....you own all of them !!!
Quite a collection you got there mate ... I can't help wondering what features one may have over the others for particular trips ?
Mellow , interesting .. 1 wheel, 1/4 setup size .. food for thought .. thanx
Georgeorge , well done mate .. you built it and it fits your needs ... light-weight .. is it fibreglass ? if so, how thick is it ?
GoldWingGL ... good look'n bit of gear there .. and very handy as well ...it looks heavy, I know looks can deceive, dose it have/need brakes ?
Biker George ... I knew what it was but I opened it anyway ... couldn't believe it .. It got another laugh out of me !! .. it's a good one.
thanks all ..... all suggestions noted

The box itself is made from ABS plastic. It's a Thule(brand-name) roof-top cargo box. It's only about 1/8" thick. It's very lightweight. But it does the job.

Fox,
Thanks?.it runs about 300 lbs empty and I load it to about 600-620 lbs. No brakes and have never felt the need for them. I pull it 2 up all the time and have never NOT been able to stop or manage it. I have had it through the Mountains, more twisties than most would attempt with or without one and it pulls great. A lot of people cringe at the weight but it is not that bad with some common sense and the skill involved in towing large Trailers.
Here's an interesting take on a camping trailer.
The 3 wheels per side thing would have to go for motorcycle applications,
but the tent part is an interesting option:

Hey... that's pretty close to what I was thinking... except make it a 1-wheel trailer and maybe a little more aerodynamic... a bullet shape? Wonder if they have any plans to make a MC trailer.. These start at $900 so the price is respectable.

Just buy it the way it is now, then when your log-jumping * on your wing you won't have any problems! :D
*Or river crossing on a wing, as seen in the Feb issue of Road Runner.

Trailace has done his job in getting me to follow him off-road.. nothing crazy but geesh, it's a wing, it should be pampered and ridden.. LOL

Hey! That looks a lot like the wheel setup on the LandMaster 1 from the movie "Damnation Alley". Stupid movie, but a cool fantasy all-terrain vehicle, that actually works.

As a motocamper... that's an interesting idea for the tent part.
