Had a great trip out to the Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground in NC. Left out of West OK on Sunday Morning the 15th and pointed The Wing east. Stopped in Conway AR that night and stayed at the Toad Suck C.O.E. campground. Very nice place and not far off of I40. The new tent and other stuff worked out great. I really like that tent. Pretty easy to put up in the dark.
Day two was on to Memphis where I got off I-40 and headed across TN on US64. It was a really nice ride going through some small towns and transitions between two lane and 4 lane without near the traffic. Almost no big trucks. Ended up at a nice little local motel in Savannah TN.
Then on Tuesday it was off to Lynchburg to tour the Jack Danials distallay. If you ever get the chance to go there it is a really cool tour. Then there are a lot of little shops in the downtown area that are pretty nice. I ened up spending a bit more time there than I expected so it kind of blew my schedule a little bit, but who cares I figured I was on vacation and didn't really have to be anywhere till Wed afternoon. Stopped for the evening in Athans TN.
Now on Wed the fun really started. Ran over to Telico Plains and did the Cherohala Skyway, one of my major goals for this years SGT was to ride there. Then headed into Robinsville NC on 129 I ran into a couple of guys that I origianly had hoped to meat up with at Fontanna Village on Tues. Turned around and chased them down and ran around the mountain roads a bit before heading to the BMRC for 4 days of mountain riding, camping and good times with old friends.
On Thursday morning we were having coffee and breakfast while looking at maps planing the days ride when Phil (owner of the BMRC) came over and said he could ride today and would take us out if we wanted. Well we jumped at the chance and Phil took myself and three others out for a ride that I won't forget for a long time. Fri I just did a solo day playing on the Blue Ridge Parkway and rode with some other friends on Sat.
Sunday I headed home knowing I was going to run into bad weather all the way back. Hit the first storm just east of Nashville and only made it to Jackson TN by dark so I grabbed a hotel room. Hit a few more storms in AR the next day and pulled into Brushy Lake State Park at Sallisaw OK about 7pm and was checking out a nice place to pitch my tent when the sky just got pitch black and the wind went from about 10 mph to 30mph in just a few min. Decided not to chance camping down in the hollow that night witch turned out to be the right choice once I got back to town and turned on the weather channel at the hotel. Lots of flash flooding in the area that night. Finally made it home Tues afternoon and just managed to skirt the edge of one of the storm cells that spawned some pretty nasty twisters just to the east of me.
All and all it was a good trip. Had a few minor issues though. When I got to Toad Suck I wanted to take a few pics and found out that I left the camera at home so I had to make due with the camera on the phone. Then headed in to Memphis the radio on The Wing decided to crap out on me. Some sort of short in the speakers making them cut out. Good thing I had my mp3 player with me so I just stopped and grabed a set of ear buds.
I will try to get the pics posted when I get home from work tonight and get them off the phone.
