View Full Version : New Guy from AZ
Just wanted to say hello, P^ My body is 59 but my brain still thinks I'm 18 so sometimes that gets me in a little trouble ;)
I used to do a lot of Boat Camping at local lakes then sold the boat and bought a MC back in 2001, Now I have been in all lower 48 plus a few Canadian Provinces on the bike but my idea of roughing it so far has been Motel 6. The idea of camping has started to intrigue me again and found your site here. Looking to pick up some good info so I can get started the right way!

Welcome, Yogi!
Dare I ask if your bikes name is Boo Boo?
You live in a great state for riding and motocamping.
This site is full of good people and lots of good advice, so ask away!

LOL Actually my bikes name is Habu after the nickname for the SR-71 as my ST1300 front profile reminded me of the SR-71. However you are close my wifes nickname is Boo Boo (btw she rides her own bike a VStar1100)

:D Well I have stopped by Jellystone Park in Rapid City South Dakota and there did look like a few camping spots there. Personally I am after the Picanic Baskets:p

Yeah its funny how many familiar faces I see in hereP^ The one thing I really need to learn is how to pick and pack for a MC as opposed to filling up the boat with everything and the kitchen sink!

Welcome yogi. Lot's of smart people to question on the site. the Wife and I are old tent campers, but like you, our body says it's 60 and the mind says naw, only 20. So we've gone to towing a timeout camp trailer behind the Harleys to camp with. We're in Peoria, AZ..

Ah Just across the valley from me! how do you like the trailer as home and how do you like towing it? What kind of difference does it make on range on the bike?
Welcome from Minnesota Yogi!

We like it actually. Beats sleeping on the ground with this old body.. The only problem we've had with the Timeout is packing it with stuff. Since we seem to be over stuffed, we've had to resort too using the external luggage bag that sits on top while traveling. So far it's been easy pulling behind the Harley. takes a little more room to stop and accelerate but no other problems.
Hasn't hurt mileage to much, dropped to about 41-42 MPG on the hiway from 43-44 normally.

Well, it's like this; My Wife rides her own Harley and she's a VERY conservative rider. so I follow her all the time because it's easier to match speeds etc. Also means I get better mileage than I would by myself!!

LOL That's what I am doing wrong, My wife rides a Vstar1100 but she is constantly chasing me around the country, (just can't lose her :D ) I'll bet our mileage would improve substantially following your plan.;)

That would be my wife Sue, She doesn't do forums, but she has ridden all over the country from West to East coast on vacations. I don't know if she is going to be into the camping thing even though as I mentioned earlier we used to do a bunch of boat camping.

Well they got to have something to do while sitting around waiting for the weather to improve or to heal body parts so they can ride.
