Ipsut Creek Campground lies in the Northwestern corner of Mt. Rainier National Park in Washington State, along Carbon River Road at an elevation of 2,300 feet. (The Carbon River Road is rough and trailers may have difficulty navigating it.) The site consists of 28 individual campsites open year-round, but dependent on snow conditions. Sites at Ipsut Creek are available on a first come, first served basis. The facilities at this site only include vault toilets so this is not a High Maintenance Camper location with showers.. Drinking water is not available at the campground. Any water obtained on site should be filtered, boiled or treated or otherwise packed in.
The Sites are nicely maintained, each site includes a picnic table and fire pit. There is more than enough room between sites which range from small (2 person/1 tent); to larger 12 person Group areas and a few that can accommodate small to mid size travel trailers. Several sites sit right next to the River, including one of the Group Sites.
Day hikes from the grounds/area include a ? mile hike across the Carbon River to Chenuis Falls, a ? mile hike to Ipsut Falls, a 2.5 mile medium/hard hike to Green Lake and a 3.5 mile medium/hard hike to the Suspension Bridge near Carbon Glacier. We have done them all.
We have camped there several times, from when it was full and also when it was only us and one other site occupied. Either way, you can?t beat the $8 per night fee for all that it has to offer.
