Back in the 80, I bought a Bass tracker 2, made by Pro Bass. It is a 2 man boat . I trade it the other day for a motorcycle and now I can't find the title or rember if it ever had a title. If any of you guy have ever had one did you get a title with it or not. .

Here in Wisconsin if it is less than 16 foot, you just get a little ID card from the Department of Natural Resources. They just ask for the ID number off the boat and hand you a sticker. If it's over 16, it has a title, just like a car.

In texas the boat and the motor each have their own title.

Did you or the state gooks send it off to get the paper in your name? Maybe they lost it in the shuffle...maybe they sent it as a en"title"ment to a very well deserving family in need. Hey, teach a person to fish...yada yada yada.

Hope all is well

You can always file for a lost title with the serial number on boat but that takes a while.

This is what I was thinking. In KY you can actually go to the "Main DMV Office" in the state's capital and get the service done the same day. I know of a few people who have built custom bikes that had great luck doing it this way, as documents don't end up lost as they are shuffled and mailed from office to office. Of course, as big as Texas is, it may not be an option for you!

Check with your boating regulation agency. In Florida it's the FWC and in Washington it's your local police department that will do an inspection to verify the vessel. On the starboard transom ( the back right side) there will be a HIN ( hull identification number). That's the same as the VIN on a vehicle. With this number your can go to the DMV and request a repalcement title as long as you are the owner of record. If not you have have to go through public records requests and get in touch with the owner of record to have them sign it over to you. That is of course only speaking of title states. Texas may be different.

Not really up on boats, but I have 2 suggestions for you.

1. Go to the County Tax Office at the courthouse in Canadian. They should be able to help you with the title, since you have to have a license plate on the boat trailer.

2. Contact Parks & Wildlife about the boat registration. You can probably get hold of the local Game Warden through the Sheriff's Office at the courthouse in Canadian. If you cannot get hold of the local Game Warden, then you will need to call a Parks & Wildlife office. I would think there would be one in Amarillo or Lubbock.

My .02, hope it helps.

If all else fails, maybe you could take a pic of it and tell them it's a homemade - of course, it would need inspection, but doubtful that the inspector cares about wether or not it's a homebuilt or not.

It's pretty easy to tell what's a "homemade" vessel. In most states removing, altering, covering, or defacing the HIN is the same as if you did it to the VIN on a car. In Florida it's a felony and you are going to jail and your boat is now contriband and will be confiscated.

The inspectors have to sign off on their inspections so they care a lot about it. At least I and every other officer at my former agency did.

I guess it's different state to state; I've had homebuilt motorcycles checked by the DMV officer who wasn't a cop. But we also had to pass a bi-yearly state inspection that checked all your lights and stuff.
I wasn't thinking that it already had a HIN on it; that's different.

In illinois we have to have a certificate of origin if it has never had a title, when I bought two canoes for the scouts the lady gave me a hand full of certificates and I used teo of them to get titles on two boats I bought in Pa.P^
