I have just recently returned from a trip from central texas to Alaska and back.My riding partner and I both have gl1800 hondas and pull trailers. He has a Kwik Kamp, and I have a Cheyeene 1500 cargo type trailer. We camped out 45 continuous days without ever staying in a motel.I will post the link to my pics.http:www.putfile.com/neverhome .Back to the trip.We moved camp about every day. This ment for me unloading all my camping gear setting it up,this is really nice in the cold rain, then the next morning trying to dry everything out then repack. My buddy just had to fold his out in about 3min.and he had a dry place to get. This did get tiring after about 3wks,but we did see lots of beautiful sites and met hundreds of great people. It is true that to truly enjoy the country you have to meet some of the locals.I don't know what attracks the people either the texas tags,or two big old boys dressed in coveralls.lol.We carried those Goldwings down many a road that people said we couldn't make.I will have to admit a couple of times I thought they may have been right.I tried to add captions to the pics where you can tell where we were.It is bad when you have so much scenery that you get tired of trying to capture it all.Let me assure you there is thousand out there doing this motorcycle camping from all over the world. We went a total of 13,200 gps miles on this trip. The only problems we had was replacing worn out tires. It is true rock roads eat rubber. If you have any questions I will try to answer them.Would I do it again, yes in a heartbeat.Every man should be an explorer, regardless of his age....jfrazsr/neverhome

Hey, welcome to the site, jfrazsr. In a couple of years I'll be retired. Then I can do it, too! :)

Thanks for the link. You got some really good shots.

Thanks so much for the photos really wonderful . The SO and I were going to make this trip next year but it is apperent that you have to take at least 4-5 weeks so you can enjoy it and not rush through it. How was the weather during your tour. I assume you went from the 1st week in July throuth 1st to 2nd week in Aug?. Please write something on the weather.
Thanks for the adventure

Alaska is probably the most fascinating state we have. I may have to plan another trip up there before I can't ride any more. Reminiscing with Trailace at Big Bend got me to thinking maybe one more trip up there, this time with the ST.

Great pictures and your experience convinced me to go ahead and buy a camper trailer for a planned trip to Alaska in 2008. Myself and 3 or 4 friends are planning a 6 week (for them) starting June 14th, 2008. When we return to Canada from the 49th state I will, on my own continue east across Canada all the way to the Maritine provinces and then down the east coast. I anticipate around 2 months or more on the road and mileage of about 13,000 or more. Since I will be 69 by the time of the trip I thought a trailer would be much easier on old bones! I will be picking up my new (to me) 2006 Bunkhouse Lil B trailer this weekend in Arab, Ala. Any and all suggestions for the trip are welcome!

Hey Gene, Kathy and I ( good Lord willing) are planning on Alaska next year, and will probably be on the road around the same time as you guys, so we should stay in touch and possibly meet up somewhere.

We pull a Leasure-Lite and would like to find more info on the camp grounds. My wife will camp as long as she has an indoor restroom! :tent8:

jfrazsr,

Great report, do you have any reference to the campgrounds? And am interested in your experience in those campgrounds.

Thanks
